Do you actually know what a listen only event is? It is one where, normally, the press would not be invited, because it is only to brainstorm ideas. Allowing the press to listen in is only done as a courtesy, and only if the press expresses an interest in the topic. Since obesity is a fairly important topic, the conference was opened up to the press.

A few years ago, I was actually in on one of these, through American Standard and ACCA. It was a strategy session on how we were going to address the change from a 10 SEER A/C standard to a 13 SEER standard. At the time, we were lobbying for a 12 SEER standard, as we felt 13 SEER would be too costly, and would leave many people no longer able to afford air conditioning in their homes, should their existing system break down, and became unrepairable. The press was invited to the event, but were only allowed to listen. They later reported on the change, and the politics driving the various factions in the debate.

This thread is a non-story.

Thanks, Vic. Clearly she was, to at least some degree, attacked by people. Like I said, I'm wasn't trying to imply that it didn't.

But, honestly, do you really think she would have been attacked for doing what has been decribed in the OP?

I could see hillary Clinton taking heat for somethign like that, but I always felt that Laura Bush was so genuinely likable that she didn't get as much **** from the media. Again, I might be wrong aboutthat, but even the stories you quoted seem more like fringe leftist lunatics being dickheads.

Seems to be almost a concerted effort by some on the right to smear the first lady. Between this and the "Michelle Obama is putting on weight(with no evidence it is true) and is promoting healthy eating so she is a hypocrite", we have some really retarded attacks going on all at once. Not at all. I honestly did not recall Laura Bush receiving criticism. In truth, I would expect Michelle to get more criticism for a few reasons.

1. Michelle Obama simply doesn't seem as likable as Laura Bush does, to me.

2. Michelle has come across as more politically active than Laura Bush did. I assuem that both women were politically active, but Mrs. Bush seemed to be more of a behind the scenes, in teh president's ear kind of active.

Laura was always pictured smiling, while Michelle seems very serious most of the time. I realize it's superficial, but with these kinds of things, superficial often wins out.

Yeah. I admit to having said back in past that in a few pics Michelle looked as if she was not having fun or to the point where she was mad about something but have came to understand that she is just not one of those peeps that look happy/smiley all the time. She is more real and does not feel need to keep a smile plastered on her face 24/7.

Not saying Laura was not real. She seems to wear her emotions which usually looked happy on her sleeve where Michelle does not play that. lol.

I kinda like getting a pissed off face over a plaster smile all the time. :)
