    Exclusive: Rumsfeld unloads

Long-awaited, from-the-hip memoir offers raw, unvarnished look at eight decades of history

"If you are not criticized, you may not be doing much."

So declares former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld in his news book 'KNOWN AND UNKNOWN'.

Now only the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal:

    # Rumsfeld warned in 2001 of Afghan “swamp” and “not to make a career out of transforming Afghanistan;” parts ways with neocons on use of military to spread democracy around the world
    # Lashes out at Clinton, Kerry, Biden for flip-flops on Iraq: “You wouldn’t want to be in a foxhole with them.”
    # Disputes Powell’s claim that he was “duped” by administration on Iraq WMD, says Powell was no Bush administration “maverick”
    # Bashes CNN for concealing Saddam's crimes against humanity prior to start of war
    # Document: Rumsfeld pressed for more troops in Tora Bora to get bin Laden in 2001
    # Says biggest regret not insisting on resigning after Abu Ghraib
    # Says McCain had “hair-trigger temper” and “a propensity to shift his positions to appeal to the media”
    # Shares his side of a decades long feud with Bush 41
    # Aide tells Rumsfeld on 9/11: “You’re a son of a bitch.” Lives to tell the tale

    # Describes surprising encounter with Elvis in The King’s Las Vegas dressing room
    # Recounts weird meetings with a confused President-elect Jimmy Carter
    # Kissinger during last days of Watergate: “Rummy, we don’t even argue with Nixon anymore”

    DRUDGE: RUMSFELD UNLOADS
Amazon.com: Known and Unknown: A Memoir (9781595230676): Donald Rumsfeld: Books
Great man Rummy, and his bit about not wanting to be in the same foxhole as Clinton, Kerry, Biden is a kind way of saying they're treasonous, politically motivated back stabbers. How the left voted to send troops for political expediency, and then when things got tough... turned on them for political expediency is one of the lowest, if not the lowest act by a group of politicians in American History. It is the apex of disgusting behavior... and for what? To try and bring down a then popular president.

Just how do you aid and abed an enemy? Ask the Democrats. They've done it twice... they and their journOlists are experts in this sickening dept.

That CNN was Saddam's propagandist is one of the great unknown stories to the public. These vile bastards should have an Obama style poster of Saddam as their logo, and rotating secondary icons of people hanging, being raped, thrown from buildings, for this is what they propped up in the name of access.

Should prove an interesting read, especially for the Leftists here and abroad.

what are the chances he apologize for aspartame? *snicker
Democracy is two wolves and sheep voting on what's for dinner. Liberty is a well armed sheep willing to contest the vote.

I'd be interested in reading Rumsfeld's view. I won't look at it as the gospel, but looking at another's perspective can be interesting.

AUSTAN GOOLSBEE: I think the world vests too much power, certainly in the president, probably in Washington in general for its influence on the economy, because most all of the economy has nothing to do with the government.

I've got mixed feelings on Rumsfeld but I do believe he's a man of serious conviction, which I can respect even if I don't always agree. I also loved this quote from him ""As you know, you go to war with the Army you have. They're not the Army you might want or wish to have at a later time." But he should be more acknowledging of mistakes that were made under his leadership during the early years in Iraq.

The is likely a list. We oversaw a war he wasn't prepared for to start with. His comment about going to war with the amry you have highlights this. He had time to plan. He was asked right after 9/11 to formulate a plan with Iraq. He shoudl have been prepared. He should have argued against going in. Listened more to Powell and less to Cheney. These are just off the top of my head.

Oh no... a Bush administration official bashing Powell, the media, Democrats and everyone else who spoke out against them? Well color me shocked.
I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality. - MLK
