Keith Olbermann announces tonight's Countdown as his last show!

Of course you will since it agrees with your own prejudices and partisan political feelings. No surprise there. The statement by Comcast is not a FACT which can be independently verified and proven true at this time since both of the other parties are not talking. It is merely a PR release designed to attempt to make them look good.

It's more of a fact that your opinion. EVERYONE here will readily admit that... except you.

btw- the Comcast takeover of NBC was first announced over a year ago. They have had plenty of time to make their feelings known to NBC management about the company they wanted in place when the deal became approved and official. And anyone who believes they have not let NBC know their feelings about such things --- well, now its my turn to say perhaps you don't know much about business.

feelings... nothing more than feelings... trying to forget my...................

Moderator's Warning:
Little less baiting and personal attacks, little more sticking to the topic everyone. Thank you.

The power of right wing corporatism strikes again. And all the little right wing toadies can now be content that the guy the said nobody watched or listened to has been silenced. But they want it both ways. They will celebrate and gloat but still insist nobody viewed him and he was no threat. Even in their revelry they wallow in their hypocrisy.

KO had two years to go on a contract that would pay him $7.5 million for each year.

I love it when the left blames thier failures on the right.

I strongly suspect that Comcast is behind this and engineered the entire thing one way or the other.

So you're boycotting NBC?

Xfactor asks

I would guess it is because KO is the shining beacon of the aggressive progressive who the right hate more than any other single person on the tube. By replacing him with anyone - even another liberal - they have done what most of those on the right would love to do if they had the chance. They know that O'Donnell does not have anywhere near the following of KO and is not replayed on other liberal sites the way KO is. I strongly suspect that Comcast is behind this and engineered the entire thing one way or the other.

Or maybe it was the illuminati?

Did I miss the board wide election where you were voted the official spokesperson for every other member?

Perhaps you could link to it so we can check the truth of your claim.

Failures!!!!!????!!!!!!

That is the totally weird thing about this story. KO was the most successful personality on the entire network. KO had the only show that averaged more than a million viewers five nights a week. KO brought MSNBC past CNN and put them in the second spot. KO came up with the idea of giving a show to Maddow and now she is the second most watched show in the evening block. KO helped MSNBC make money.

If that is failure than you have a very very strange definition of it.

When your ratings suck consistently compared to your competition... you're a failure.

Keith Olbermann: How Anger Fueled His Rise and Fall at MSNBC - The Daily Beast

As his indignation swelled, his ratings ballooned as well. But at times the anger would metastasize into self-righteous fury, producing bitter confrontations with his network bosses—who treasured Olbermann’s success but were increasingly worn out by the histrionics. Olbermann’s abrupt departure Friday demonstrated, in a very real sense, the limits of anger as a tool of television. The same fervor that draws cheers from partisan viewers almost invariably leads to clashes with the people who sign the checks, as their pit bull starts gnawing on the furniture.

For Phil Griffin, a friend and colleague of Olbermann’s for three decades, the demise of Countdown was a giant step toward asserting control over his network, even at the price of losing his biggest star. For Griffin, a blunt-spoken former producer, Olbermann was an immense talent with an ego to match, and their dealings often devolved into a test of wills. As part of the settlement of Olbermann’s $30-million contract, insiders say both sides have agreed for a limited period not to discuss his departure, which was hammered out over a period of weeks and gave Griffin time to rejigger his prime-time schedule.

Former MSNBC anchor David Shuster told me that Olbermann wanted to capitalize on his liberal base and felt he needed to “be able to do the sort of reporting and analysis without having my wings clipped by NBC News." He wanted to be paid what he felt he was worth. For Phil Griffin, a friend and colleague of Olbermann’s for three decades, the demise of Countdown was a giant step toward asserting control over his network, even at the price of losing his biggest star. Olbermann had also clashed with Griffin’s predecessors, Rick Kaplan and Dan Abrams, once attacking Abrams on the air as a “fired MSNBC employee” full of “bitterness” toward the channel.

By the time Griffin suspended Olbermann late last year for violating network rules by contributing to Democratic candidates, there were deep scars on both sides. When Olbermann threatened to air his grievances on other networks, Griffin vowed to fire him. The relationship with management kept deteriorating to the point that divorce became inevitable. Even those sympathetic to Olbermann came to believe that his deep well of anger, the secret of his box-office success, often got the best of him.

1. kurtz, long time wapo media specialist, hosts cnn's sunday media-on-the-media measure, "reliable sources"

According to that definition, everyone in life is a failure compared to the one dog on top.

Now I am beginning to understand the right wing mind a little better. Thanks for the insight Who. And do you need some of that Kleenex you are passing out in the Obama poll thread to comfort yourself seeing that you are not the top dog in life also?

Yes, I was obviously talking about life in general, and not specifically television ratings

There are so many of these Olberman threads it gets to be quite a task trying to keep them all straight!

First point of reality is that most often people who get fired were helping their company make money. Just because you are doing your actual job duties does not mean that you can't also be doing other things that makes separating you from the company desirable. So much for that excuse.

We are talking about the same Kieth Olberman that flaunted his arguments and constant battles with his bosses in public. That never works out very well for the person doing it. Furthermore we are talking about the same Kieth Olberman that could not control himself and behave professionally during the last presidential election party conventions. When he had to be removed from lead anchor coverage duties for fighting with his fellow pundits instead of covering what was happening on the convention floor. A major on the job failure by any measure. The man is no victim. None of your points matter at all to his bosses. From whom he wanted a raise in pay. Again. The same bosses he went out of his way to criticize and with whom he had so many public battles. To say that the man was a success because he had the highest rated show on a failing cable network is a very strange definition of success.

Looking through the site index and at a lot of threads in the Media Bias section one fact is clear to me. The majority of the members defending Olberman and trying to paint him a victim of some conspiracy are the same members who would applaud loudly if this was any of the leading Fox pundits. Which in my humble opinion just goes to show how strongly partisan a lot of this all is.

How mature and grown up.

Take this advice from someone who loaths and avoids all 24/7 news dribble: you're also being taken for a ride and I don't think you're going to like it very much when Beck is finally given the boot.

I couldn't care less, I have nothing invested in Beck.
