It's sad to hear that borders might be a thing of the past, if there's one super huge chain store that I do like it's borders (and other similar types of stores); I mean hell, you think people would be more inclined to read in this day and age.

It's not that people don't like to read, it's that people don't feel like going to a ****ty generic brick and mortar store in a trashy mall to pay $23.99 for a book that they can buy off amazon for 9.99.

Good riddance to everything on the list.

Does a spinoff of a foreign company count as an American company?

    And the jobs, too?

    It's a shame we'll lose US jobs.

Why are you assuming that the jobs will magically disappear? Most of these companies will "disappear" in the sense that various divisions will be sold off to other companies, continuing operations under another logo.

Are you objecting to the capitalist system that rewards successful companies and punishes unsuccessful ones?

Oh this will be good to watch.

The original Borders in downtown Ann Arbor was a wonderful place and I must have purchased a hundred books there over the decades. It was one of the best bookstores you could ever go into. Its sad that they attempted to expand and in doing so it will cost them the life of the company.

It seems that Sara Lee is going to be broken up. They have several very good brands and I hope each can make it.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

Remember those people that were 'stupid protestors' 10-15 years back speaking out against free trade agreements??? Going into the line of fire of tear gas and rubber bullets to speak out against what these agreements will mean, only to get demonized in the media because some paid provocateurs through a brick through a window??

Well, this was what they were trying to prevent.

Edit : Not specifically those 10 companies, but the general shipping of jobs overseas...
