Of course, the GOP's prescription drug bill was far less expansive than what Dems wanted. It's funny to me that Dems bash the GOP over this, given that this seems like the kind of thing Dems would normally support. That law is a classic example of how trying to bargain with Dems will only end up burning the GOP in the end and why "bipartisanship" is over-rated.

That is good news, not the bad news that has been stated here, not by you but by others. Bush said that the Prescription Drug program would reduce costs and at least in 2008 it not only wasn't unfunded but it reduced costs.
I did not say it was bad news, and you still have entirely failed to address my point as usual. Please try and respond to what I say, and what I am saying, and not what you imagine you wish I had said.

The bill was passed in 2003. Who controlled the house and senate and the presidency? This is typical republican strategy part 3, blame everything you do on democrats.

Thank you at least for actually addressing the point I made however.

Yes, it did pass in 2003 and went into effect in 2006. In 2008 it had a 6 billion dollar savings from what was budgeted. What did the Democrats have to do with the legislation? did the Democrats propose more or less spending than the Bush bill authorized?

Oh, I'm not denying that was a Rep bill. What I'm saying is, the Dems wanted more and GOP tried compromising with them. Do they get credit for that? No, the get condemned for spending by the party that has raised spending to previously unheard of levels. As far as the blame game, are you kidding me? Who's repeatedly referred to as the "party of no", "obstructionists" and "holding Obama hostage" over tax cuts while they had no power over the last couple years to obstruct anything?

Thank you at least for actually addressing the point I made however.
    You're welcome.

that is a very weird way you have of describing what happened. They failed to provide any NEW source of funding for their NEW spending program. If Dems did that you would be screaming to high heaven about the sheer irresponsibility of it all.

One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

Prescription drug program is part of Medicare it is already funded and as shown came in under budget.

As has been posted if you will be honest Democrats wanted more spending, not less so where would that money have come from?

If the Dems had done it, you'd be lauding it as this great, caring thing.

It might have been nice if they returned their own salary levels to FY2000 levels, as a sign that they're committed to fiscal responsibility.
