    They're either mockups, that can't be made to fire...or, they're semi-automatic.

See this? Looks like a, "machine gun", right?

It sells for $8,990. Joe Blow nutjob off the street isn't going to waltz in, lay 9 g's on the counter and waltz back out, to go down the street to kill a buncha people. Not to mention, as yuo see it right there, it ways 80 pounds.

Another common error made by journalists. It was illegal to MANUFACTURE until 2004. It was not illegal to possess, sell, or use. Given that there were millions already in existence, that didn't mean much.

    Okay, Okay, Okay!!!!

    I'm wrong.

But I really think the laws could be reviewed on the Federal level.

    So there.

when you buy into the faith based myth that more laws will stop people who violate capital crimes you are pretty much beyond help

No more assault weapons. No more right-to-carry. Background checks required. Three references required. No more gun show sales. I'm all for it. The time is now.

And, by the way, enforce the laws already on the books as to those who own/carry/transport illegal guns of any kind.

    Very disappointing, Maggie.

First of all a Glock isn't a machine gun or an automatic weapon. It is semi-auto, like many civilian firearms. One pull of the trigger= one shot fired.

No more right-to-carry? That has what to do with this? I never saw where he had a carry permit. I've posted statistics that people with concealed-carry permits have a far lower rate of crime than the general citizenry.

Background checks are already done, via NICS. In this case there was a failure... well, improve the NICS system to include mental-illness flags.

Machineguns are already illegal without a Class III special license... you CANNOT go to the gunstore and buy a "machinegun" without one....but you could go to the 'hood and buy a machinegun illegally, perhaps.

Restrain your emotions and do a reality check, and make sure you know what you're talking about first, please.

EDITED to add: Nevermind, I see that correction has already been applied.

I know that Goshin. I was making a separate issue of assault weapons. This Glock did, however, have an extended magazine.

Yes. Improve the system. But it wouldn't have caught this guy. We can't catch 'em all.

Yes, I've since looked that up. Either the machine guns hanging on the wall of my gun shop are look-alikes or they are on display for the purpose of giving hard-ons to gun enthusiasts.

Restrain your emotions and do a reality check, and make sure you know what you're talking about first, please.
First, I would remind you that I recanted quite clearly. Second, that one doesn't have to be a gun expert to know that we have a problem with guns in this country...with much of the problem being that we don't effectively enforce laws already on the books...and the punishments for carrying unlicensed/unpermitted weapons are not solving our problems. (The streets of inner-city Chicago are nothing short of the Wild West.)

And, finally, tragedies like this call for a careful audit of policies and procedures. That's a given. Or it should be.

EDITED to add: Nevermind, I see that correction has already been applied.
Didn't see this 'til I'd typed the above.

Now, hopefully, the dogs have been called off. ;-)

    What's an "assault weapon"?
You should try to remember, ideas are conveyed by researching information, vetting sources, and confirming said information. Not by regurgitating talking points given to you by your "news" station.

Uh-oh. Here comes the dogs again.

Okay. I don't KNOW what an assault weapon is. (Now, I coulda' Googled it and lied, so give me SOME credit.) But whatever it is, we probably shouldn't be able to own them. I'm qualifyin' everything NOW.
