Katie Couric... "we need a muslim Cosby Show".

and thank you for agreeing that muslims are the equivalent of the KKK. how very astute of you.

Are you that clueless to miss the point that I was saying just the opposite? I think not....I think you are simply being obtuse now.

sorry, honey, but Muslims in America are not the problem. most of them are here because they didn't like what was happening "on the other side of the world".

And yet, there are many American Muslims that are quick to apologize for the Islamofacists.

I was simply pointing out how ridiculous your point was.

Throughout history.

Just a few to start with: You have the countless acts of terrorism by the ultra-right wing KKK groups over the years, you have numerous incidents of terrorist bombing of abortion clinics and shooting of doctors, you have the bombing of the Federal building by McVey....

Those are just off the top of my head.

No....you were responding to how ridiculous your post was...and how you didn't even realize that you were proving exactly why Katie Couric was absolutely correct.

sorry dude.

saying that we need a muslim cosby show because people just don't understand what being a muslim is all about is no different from saying we need a KKK cosby show because people just don't understand what being a white supremicist is all about.

the point is, a ****ing TV show isn't going to do jack squat to "enlighten" anyone and you are either incredibly stupid or incredibly naive if you think it will.

These are a few, just over the past few years

A bomb outside a Coptic Orthodox church, where worshippers gathered to celebrate mass on New Year's Eve.

A suspected Al Qaeda militant tossed an explosive device at the French Embassay in Mali and the explosive device hit a sentry post. The suspect was injured and arrested by private security hired to guard the embassy but not before one security guard was shot and one security guard received burns from the explosion.

Lakki Marwat, Pakistan A suicide car bomber drove his explosive-laden vehicle into a volleyball pitch as people gathered to watch a match.

Kabul, Afghanistan A suicide bomber detonated in an area including a shopping centre, guest house and hotel in the Afghan capital, with gunfire heard after at least two blasts.

Baghdad, Iraq Three attacks occurred in Baghdad. The first incident involved a mortar attack on a crowded market. Two suicide bombers then detonated in different areas of the city. It is known that polling stations were the target in both of these suicide attacks. These attacks come as voting occurs on the first day of voting in Iraq's parliamentary elections.

Israel Netiv Ha’asara area, Israel A Thai greenhouse worker was killed when a Kassam rocket fired by Gaza militants exploded in the moshav where he was working. An al-Qaida-inspired small Islamist faction called Ansar al-Sunna claimed responsibility for the attack.

Khyber, Pakistan Militants attacked a Pakistani Frontier Corps camp in the tribal region of Khyber in north-western Pakistan. It has been reported that dozens of militants assaulted the camp after a suicide car bomber blew a hole in one of its walls.

Baghdad, Iraq Three suicide car bombers hit in the centre of Iraq's capital city, Baghdad. One explosion reportedly occurred near to the Iranian embassy whereas the other two explosions were detonated in the west-central Mansour district within the city. The Islamic State of Iraq claimed responsibility for the attacks. It has also been reported that at least one of these blasts struck near to the offices of a pro-Iranian politician, Ahmed Chalabi.

Shall I keep going?

You discount the influence that TV has on our society. Television has been instrumental in changing a lot of minds and attitudes over the years.
Look at the influence that TV had on changing the American publics view on Vietnam...for one historical example.

So, why not use it as a propaganda tool. Right?

Perhaps the Libs should launch a show about Obama that shows him to be a great president. He could use all the propaganda he can get :lamo

Thats over a few months/ hell considering their history Id say there have been periods where thats a slow week.

See...if we just have a funny little sitcom people will forget that these murderous ****s have been doing this for DECADES...we'll just get used to it because...hey...come on...its not like its ALL Muslims...so...give em a break...

And then we can go a few centuries...that we can show that EVERYONE has their bad days...

what shows and what exactly was the influence? most of the liberals today still think poorly of the vietnam war and hold the deserters and draft dodgers up as heros, much like they did in the 70s. I think you are barking up the wrong tree on this one.

Not at all. There are numerous studies that have shown how TV has influenced beliefs over the years. It is a powerful medium that can be easily misused to control the masses.

There is clear evidence that the rise of television availability during the early 70's and the coverage of the Tet offensive was responsible for a radical shift in American attitudes against the US Involvement in Vietnam.

Why do you think that they fight so hard to keep the media from showing pictures of caskets with American soldiers returning home?

This thread, for the most part, only proves her point. Unfortunately, I think we have a long way to go as a society before a "Muslim Cosby Show" would be a plausible idea. The views many have of Muslims are simply too vitriolic at this point for something like that to work.

Just out of curiosity, for those who are bashing Muslims... How many Muslims (American Muslims included) do you know personally or have you talked to? Or are you basing your views on the extreme examples brought forth by the media? It's far easier to make hateful sweeping judgments about entire groups of people than it is to find out the truth on a deeper level and realize just how absurdly wrong you were.

I know MANY...and have lived with them and worked with them and dont bash 'Muslims.' I do bash morons who think a cartoony sitcom will make everything all better or who pretend like there isnt a SIGNIFICANT number of extremists that dont fit that crtoony little model.

Cuz...like for example...THIS....

Isnt going to undo the reality of this...

I think there's been a Muslim Cosby show, of sorts, way back in '79...

(Hang on tight to your sense of humor...)

But it will undo the very real idea that that video represents EVERYBODY in the Muslim faith [which kinda was the whole idea - not to discount the violence like you /seem/ to believe].

I WANT people to remain vigilant....to be MORE vigilant regarding those 'few' Muslims that continue slaughter innocent men women andf children on a regular basis. If the Muslims wont take a louder voice then the shame is on them.

And again...I LAUGH at the idiots that rush to defend 'Muslims'...especially the ones here that rush to deride virtually all other religions. The kneejerk defense of a religion that so specifically opposes (in some places unto death) things like homosexuality...womens rights...women...oh I dont know...reading...

No...NOT ALL MUSLIMS...but until there is more Muslims rushing to END the violence in their name than rushing to JOIN them...well...sorry...you STILL have to deal with this...

And this...

No...I dont WANT people to normalize this kind of behavior.

I don't think it would make everything all better. I think it could do some good, however, for people to see that they don't fit the extremist stereotype that many people harbor. While there are a significant number of extremists, they are still in the minority.

Who are you trying to convince? MOST PEOPLE...thinking people know that not all Muslims are fundamentalist or extremists. Katie Couric suggested there ought to be a sitcom to change peoples opinions...WHO'S? Its horse****.

Ya know if someone had suggested...say...I think there would be a market for a sitcom about a Muslim family...then I dont think ANYONE would even care. The suggestion...from the CBS news anchor...that they ought to use television as propoganda is what has people laughing with derision. (Not like CBS news isnt 'propoganda')

I'm not trying to convince anyone. I'm merely expressing my opinion. I really couldn't give a **** whether you agree or not.

...

Thanks for proving my point.

THIS IS NOT NORMAL amongst the civilized [key word] western world Muslims, I think the point being made is that this is a separate subsection and if one attacks the atrocities, they must be careful to attack the specific factions and problems instead of generalizing. A sentiment, BTW, that goes true for any ideology and point of view.
