While this is not necessarily where the authorization for what ??? is saying comes from, in this specific instance, the authority to regulate the wattage of these light-bulbs does come from the constitution:

To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes
Even if the California plant is only selling these light-bulbs in California (which is doubtful), California itself gets much of their energy supplied from other states. Thus, regulating wattage can be included in the authority to regulate interstate commerce.

The reasoning they utilize is irrelevant to the fact that the constitution does, indeed, grant the authority for such regulation.

Edit: Scratch that. I just realized this is a California-specific situation. There's no need for the constitution to grant California this authority ove rtheir own intra-state commerce.

    A conservative should know that.

    I use LED's myself, cause, I can.
Big Box crap is the same crap being sold in regular stores. Or do you have a consumer's report study that says otherwise?

Costco - Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite Rechargeable Toothbrush w/ UV Sanitizer customer reviews - product reviews - read top consumer ratings

You might score the occasional pair of Lucky jeans or a Speedo swimsuit, but designer duds aren't exactly Job 1 at Costco. Even if you do see an item from a top-tier name brand, you can't assume it's the same quality as the similar-looking product at a department store. "Just because it's a national brand name, an item of clothing doesn't have to meet the standards you'll see in other stores," says Marshal Cohen, chief retail analyst at the NPD Group, a market research firm.

Kathryn Finney, founder of The Budget Fashionista, says it's no secret that most name designers make cheaper lines just for warehouse clubs or outlet stores. The tip-off, says Finney, will be in the packaging and/or label on the garment. Labels on the sub-brands are just glued on, and are usually stiff and crunchy, while labels on high-end goods are softer or silky, and stitched all around.

    Anything else?

They sell cheaper made versions of regular products.

here's how you get folks to by the cfl's that have the higher markup price (did you know the markup on a cfl for the wholesaler and the retailer is nearly double that of a standard bulb?)

Put the CFL's at 36"-46" on the shelves, put the standards above or below that height......

Guess what.... Home depot, and lowes do just that.... in a year or two, you all won't even be talking about this nonsense.

Of course they're going to play along, because they want to make the higher price margin.

Are you talking about "instore branding". Those may be different, as they might be at your local grocery store, but if is the same brand and model number, they are the same.
We shop Costco and Sam's a lot, never been disappointed.

No, the lucky brand jeans you are wearing that you got for $20 are not the same as the $100 pair, I am wearing, even though all the labels are the same. mine will last a couple years, yours, a few months.

edit to add, they have a slight UPC label change. that's all.

The companies sell cheaper versions of thier products to big box stores to dupe you the consumer into thinking you are getting a deal.

I won't even get into thier "meat and fish" departments and the havoc they reek on the ecosystem and your health.

Well, I have a generic body, so designer clothing would just be a waste on me.
You got a link of meat and fish? how they "reek"?
Hardly anybody goes to Costco looking for the kind of quality you speak of, not really, do they?

It seems this thread is full of people that don't understand how free markets allocate resources. But now that the statists have been moving in for several decades and the waste in the system is becoming ever more evident, can we finally read road to serfdom and give it a try? If not please explain how a single entity, be it a person or government, can receive information on the state of a market and make precise decisions based on the efficient allocation of resources more efficiently than a system of free market prices? (interest rates are prices as well, i'm looking at you pro-central-banking neocons)
