    Unintended concequences suck. Don't they?
Exactly 200, according to GE, the only US manufacturer who still bothered making incandescent bulbs. I have bad news for you, but the majority of GE's operations are already overseas, so let's not make this discussion into an emotional appeal, please.

You appear to be only mad about them leaving which shows that you can't properly solve the problem.

Anyway, I'm bit lost on why liberals believed this needed to be done. These bulbs are very popular in the market and it appears the market is already reaching their ends. Seem pointless to me to throw around your control for little reason.
You appear to have lost the train of the argument. I'm merely responding to Apdst's pseudo-outrage.

It's not about government leadership. It's about private commerce and how much profit is to be made. If the same companies who manufacture the existing bulbs have to adapt to the CFL bulbs, it could take years to phase them in.

As we all noticed the last few years, private commerce plays the tune and the government dances to it.

In that case, my apologies. I was just answering the question that was asked.

I agree with this. I really donít see why this is a change that needs to be legislated into existence, because the market is trending that way on itís own, but since itís already done I really donít really have a problem with it.

All Iím saying is there are plenty of other major policy issues to direct ire towards, so letís not hyperventilate over the minors. I would wager that if light bulb manufacturers simply announced that they were discontinuing their less efficient bulbs, of their own accord, there would not be anywhere near the outrage, but because itís the government discontinuing the bulbs, people must raise their fists and bare their righteous indignation!

Again, any consumer doing a proper cost/benefit comparison would be making this decision on their own, so why make a fuss?

So, that's because of peak oil? You better go tell all the oil companies to stop drilling, because there's no more oil there. I bet they would love to have that little bit of info.

Let's bring GE back by increasing corporate taxes if they don't make the bulbs the govt wants.
