Vice Admiral: Obama was outmaneuvered by Russians on START

Or, we could have just kept developing Star Wars and inrecepted those missiles before they re-entered the atmosphere.

Which actually has bigger problems. Really, you have to start to educate yourself before posting on anything. Your demonstrated ignorance is really disturbing. We basically abandoned interception in space because decoys work exceptionally well. There is no way to determine which of the targets is an actual missile and which is a mylar decoy balloon in space as they behave identical outside of the atmosphere. A single missile can release upwards of several hundred balloons. That will defeat anything short of a nuclear interceptor, which in itself is self defeating as the denontation scrambles all radar making it impossible to detect secondary launches or anything that survived the interceptor. That's pretty much why the US and USSR abandoned nuclear interceptors. There's no way to tell if a second salvo is coming.

Because a nuke in shipping container will only kill a buncha people, in a coastal city, leaving all our nuke intact for retaliation.

Who said anything about using it within the container? That's merely the way to get in into the country. And considering the weakness in US port security, that's one of the reason why I believe in God. There is no logical reason why the US should not have been hit by a nuclear smuggled nuke by now.

Only a complete dumbass would launch a nuke strike, without mingling in some point strikes to neutralize retaliatory systems. Oh, wait, I'm sorry 'bout that.

Only a complete dumbass would actually resort to a nuclear strike with a missile against an enemy who is capable of wiping them out with 2nd strike capabilities. The actual people who would nuke is won't use a missile. They'd just a donkey.

Care to show it to us?

Don't know how I missed this thread. After reading this I get the feeling this guy is a retired fogey hawk. The piece is littered with inflammatory glitz and assumption and underlines a consistent support for military encroachment on the Russian sphere of influence. And people wonder why 3rd world leaders bitch about Empires. He also floats away into minor tactical episodes that make me wonder whether he's even attempting to relate it.

Then there is Russia’s threat to nuke Poland in response to Poland’s agreement to host American missile interceptors. Of course, they only agreed to host them in order to get their hands on some Patriot missile batteries all the better to shoot down Russian missiles and jets. Only Russia can get pissed off over military equipment that is useful only on the defender’s territory.
*Ignorant of the reciprocity in deterrence theory substituted instead for vocabulary of 'defense'

As recently as July, the newspaper Izvestia floated the idea that Moscow would station nuclear weapons in Cuba if the U.S. went ahead with the deployment of an antiballistic missile radar in the Czech Republic and interceptors in Poland.
*How dare other nations respond to our nuclear escalations!

The Administration’s cancellation of the anti-missile system that was going to be deployed in Poland and the now-confirmed lie that the Administration swore that the cancellation had nothing to do with Russia’s objection to the system puts doubt in my mind that the US has the will needed to put the Russians in check

*Yeah, nice one McCarthur, putting them in 'check' isn't going to invite any negative feelings for you to have to put in 'check' in turn.

We certainly should have the motivation to try and limit the threat that is Russia. One way to do that is of course to have them account for their past nuclear sins.

I could go on. This would get a B- as a paper in an undergrad class.

*Last I remembered only one state has used nuclear weapons and it was on civilians. Sweet move.

Sit down and shutup, Admiral, theres a reason for civilian control of the US military. The US has had whatever one could call nuclear 'primacy' since the 70's and can vaporise Russia any day. Like were actually losing anything except the right to approach nuclear genocide at a quicker pace than we could've before.

Okay, I stand corrected. And thank you.

Desert Storm was another con lie: See April Glaspie and Dick Cheney for more info. It's not like we were fighting anything but old men on that border, dude. The Republican Guard was in Baghdad. We simply buried them alive with bulldozers. Oh sure, we shot a few, but how much sport was there in killing old men and young boys?

Kosovo: Excellent job, guys. I mean that.

Iraq: Please.

Afghanistan: Another mess cons left. Of course, capture Bin Laden at Tora Bora and no reason to invade Iraq. Cons should be kissing Obama's feet for not pursuing war crimes tribunals.

Trufer alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lol. Here are the silo locations: Missile Bases

Those are deactivated silos. I was talking about actual silos that are in service at this time. Wanna show us those locations?

Two words: Patriot. Missile.

Russia is building missile defenses around Moscow. There are sixty two sets of interceptors. Obviously the Russians believe in missile defense for themselves. It's not Russia's job to see to the interests of America. That's the job of Obama. Obama let the country down. American's will pay for this in the future.

Okay, tell me how agreeing not to use launch facilities for missile defense we never planned on using in the first place makes us more insecure.

Okay, tell me how not having inspectors in Russia doing inventory and interviewing scientists makes us more insecure.

Get some common sense first (if you can) and you will be able to answer your own question.

there's no evidence that missile defense systems don't work...LOL

I thanked you for this post earlier because I thought you were making a joke. But, just in case you weren't, there's plenty of evidence missile defense doesn't work, provided by the people who test missile defense. Maybe someday it will work, but right now its in the R&D stages.

I was just curious. I think that it is all online.

Here is a link to file that you can use in Google Earth to see all the locations on an interactive map.

Seems weird but I guess it is public information.

Navy vet here. I was looking for this sanity. Thanks. I don't think these folks quite understand what our arsenal is, and where it is. Delivery systems are Ballistic Missile submarines and B-2 bombers. Our ICBM's are in places like Diego Garcia. Staging for Air Force nuclear ops is Alabama. Nukes themselves are in places like North Dakota. We also have drones now as well as cruise missiles which can be delivered in a myriad of ways.

If I remember right, the silos are gone.

If that's the case, have you asked yourself why anyone bothered to mention them in the treaty?

That's like proving a negative.

They may have proven that those systems don't work, but no one as ever proven that anti-missile defense systems don't work. A weapon has never been built that can't be defeated.

There's one nuke silo in all of the United States and it's in Nevada?

The emergency oil reserve facilities aren't even on a map. How can anyone believe that active nuclear missile locations are going to be listed on a map?

The man is a real irresponsible idiot but some people here say he is brilliant. This is another proof that I was right. This idiot wants us all killed.

Wait - I thought the Muslims wanted all of us dead?

Oh - wait - oh I get it *wink wink*

Yes..... yes. Very insightful. :wassat1:

You bet.
You shouldn't be surprised by what this guy has done so far. Obama will be blaming the Republican party for everything starting next year and you won't hear him blame Bush anymore, thank God!!

I am not asking you to believe I am offering evidence that this information is available. Note that these are not US Government sources so it is likely that the information is somewhat inaccurate.

I don't think that you opened it properly. You need to open the file in Google Earth - I also tried the other options but they did not seem to work.

From the site.

Here is another map that I found. The PDF is linked in the article.

New Article: Where the Bombs Are » FAS Strategic Security Blog

Oh - and here is some info on the oil reserve facilities locations.

Global strategic petroleum reserves - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The U.S. facilities are in salt caverns with locations in:

* Bryan Mound - located near Freeport, Texas. Capacity of 226,000,000 barrels (35,900,000 m3).
* Big Hill - located near Winnie, Texas. Capacity of 160,000,000 barrels (25,000,000 m3).
* West Hackberry - located near Lake Charles, Louisiana. Capacity of 219,000,000 barrels (34,800,000 m3).
* Bayou Choctaw - located near Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Capacity of 72,000,000 barrels (11,400,000 m3).
* Richton, Mississippi. A new facility the capacity is unknown.

The US has also organized the 2-million-barrel (320,000 m3) Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve to supply northeast homeowners during shortages.

And here

DOE - Fossil Energy: The Strategic Petroleum Reserve Storage Sites

Storage locations along the Gulf Coast were selected because they provide the most flexible means for connecting to the Nation's commercial oil transport network. Strategic Reserve oil can be distributed through interstate pipelines to nearly half of the Nation's oil refineries or loaded into ships or barges for transport to other refineries.

Well, you could look at it that way. When trying to prove missile defense works, they have proved it doesn't. That's proving a negative, if you insist.

But, really, it does not work yet, it can not work yet. I'm sure you know that.

There is no similarity between shooting down an occasional, antiquated SCUD missile, and shooting down a number of modern ICBMs.

Someday missile defense will work, but not today.

Obama is an Ex Muslim... think about it... *wink wink*

I was actually joking (I can't tell if you realized that or not)

Just because his parents made him do something doesn't mean he ever *was* anything. . . that just means his parents made him do it.

So far?
ICBMs can't be defeated. The technology base required to defeat them does not yet exist.

Actually missile defense may never work. An example:

Let's say your MD can block 500 missiles. All I have to do if fire 500 dummy (or conventional missiles) then I fire my nukes and BOOM!
