His trial is nowhere near beginning, but Bradley Manning is allegedly already being treated like a threat by his military jailers.

The Army private who told a friend he was responsible for downloading and passing on the government documents that made WikiLeaks famous is being held in solitary confinement 23 hours a day in Quantico, Va., without a pillow or blankets, according to a report from Salon.

In an interview with CBS News last week, a spokesman for his defense fund said Manning's trial is far from getting underway. The Army has to complete a psychological evaluation before pre-trial hearings can begin, and the defense and prosecutors are still in the process of haggling over who will conduct the evaluation.

What exactly are they afraid he is going to do if they do not put him in solitary? What is the point of not allowing him to have blankets?

This isn't good as solitary confinement can have damaging psychological effects, as can be noted here, here, here and here

Solitary can be because he has caused trouble in the jail, or it could be to protect him from threats of others.

key words here...

Any corroboration?

Yeah, kinda smells like the bogus Newsweek story about "flushing Korans" at Gitmo.

I'm not saying it is, or is not bogus. I'm simply asking for more than a single source who has not identified it's source.

That was the problem with Newsweek, too. Was too juicy not to print, but it turned out to be bogus.

Never mind that millions probably still believe it. I even see it pop up here from time to time.

I had never heard it was not true, though I never put much thought into it and would have had to work hard to care if it had been true. If it had been true it would have been one of those wrong, but not worth making a big deal about it kinda things.

For heaven's sake people don't be so lazy that you won't even read the damned article on Salon. It is linked right there in the CBS story. Not a single one of your complaints goes unaddressed.

He's in a military stockade--not a brig as most MSM sources like to falsely report--and this is the traditional method of confinement.

And...who gives a **** if his treasonist ass has a blanket, or not? I mean, if this piece-a-**** dies from exposure, I'm not going to shed any tears for his worthless ass.

The only thing he deserves is a bullet for his treason/espionage. So what if he doesn't get a blanket or is in solitary. They are probably worried that he might try to pass on more classified intel or hang himself.

I have no "complaints." I agree with some of the others; if he's a little chilly at night, I'm not going to lose any of my own sleep over it.

I just turned up the thermostat and grabbed an extra blanket in honor of him.

Solitary would likely be for his own safety, and to keep control of information.

Off topic, but I think we found out the military had been wearing white gloves when they handled the Koran, and not flushed it.

This is the guy you convict for passing classified intel. Leave Assauge alone, he did nothing illegal.

People have leaked classified information are always put into solitary confinement, and its for no other reason than they probably still know something secret that they could potentially leak to someone else if they had contact with other people. As cruel as it sounds its explained very well to you when you are given access to secret information, that there is a trust between you and the government as to how you will use that information and if you break that trust it is never never never extended in the slightest.

The only way he could get out is if its decided he no longer knows anything classified which would mean everything he knows would have to be declassified, which is not the same as being leaked by the way. Even knowledge which is public can still be deemed classified if the government still wants to control access to that information.

hopefully he will get a speedy trial, be executed and be done with him already.

Or just put a loaded pistol and box of rattlesnakes in there with him.

He committed treason and should be severely punished if not sentenced to death (as that is the penalty during war time).

Frankly, at the least, I don't think he will every leave prison. He's embarrassed the US for one thing, and that one thing alone will likely mean that justice will seek him out with a vengence.
