NOW Sues Hooters Over "Future Hooters Girl" Children's T-Shirts

I think this pic sums it up.

One thing that irritates me to the extreme is when people assume that they can speak for others on issues that are purely exersized at-will. The waitresses (though I don't like Hooters and all that) they did DECIDE to go and apply - they WANTED to work there. They could work ANYWHERE else and wait tables but at least this establishment's a bit more fun than that.

I'm sure that woman holding the sign wouldn't want a Hooter's chick to insist that "Real Women wear thongs" and things like that. . . so why women like her feel compelled to protest what other women are doing is beyond me.

I have issues - but I'd never run someone into the ground over it.

As Henry Rollins would say, "someone saw you this week and said 'damn, yeah, I'd **** that"

He could have wrote that song with beer goggles on.

Really? According to that pic, it seemed it was the attractive women who had no trouble with it. LOL

That pic was selected from among the teeming currents of modern civilization's swell of digital information because it confirmed a personally held sentiment. It says little about reality on the whole. It doesn't do justice to the truth, just to a certain kind of opinion.

For example, there are female porn stars who made a career on their attractiveness who, though they still retained their good looks, decided that there was something intrinsically wrong with the porn industry and turned against it.

That undermines the plausibility of the viewpoint that ugly women are the only ones against capitalizing on sexuality.

There are other examples.

I don't see the problem personally. I've seen kids in worse
Tho I must say, I don't really get why being a waitress is bad. Is there like undercover prostitution happening or something?

It's a ****ty job with ****ty pay being treated ****ty by people.

Look, y'all....Hooters is what it is. It's a restaurant with okay food. The prices are a little high for what you get, IMO. The waitresses wear short-shorts and tight tops with some cleavage.

PERSONALLY I'm not that crazy about the place. Sure, the girls are cute, but most of them are young enough to be my daughter, and I find it a little embarassing to have a chick that young leaning in to show me some cleavage in the hope of a better tip. I'm rather conservative socially, ya know.

BUT, It isn't porn, prostitution, or stripping. The costumes aren't really any worse than some HS or College Cheerleader outfits, or things some of your 17-22yo daughters are wearing out to parties. Lots of pretty girls would rather work at Hooters than at McDonald's or Chik-fil-A or Applebees... perhaps it is more fun and I'd bet they get better tips. It's just not that big of a deal.

If I had a daughter who worked at Hooters I'd probably grumble a little about it... because most fathers don't really like to think about their daughters' being viewed with sexual intrest.

I don't think "future hooters girl" is appropriate on a Tshirt for young girls for similar reasons. I wouldn't put one on my little girl... but that's my personal parental choice.

BUT, there are a lot of things that make me uncomfortable or that I think are inappropriate... that DOESN'T mean I think they should be outlawed, legislated against, or sued out of existence in most cases. There's a huge difference between "I'm not comfortable with that" and "I think it should be outlawed or otherwise stopped."

I question NOW's priorities. What about strip joints? If they want to sue someone for "Exploiting" women, why aren't they suing Platinum Plus?

Looks more like a publicity stunt than anything else, if you ask me. NOW has become rather irrelevant and wanted to make some news.

Sexual liberation is relative. In the ancient world, making it hard to get a divorce passed for liberation because it protected women from being abandoned through the tyrannical whims of their husbands. In contemporary times, some interpret capitalized eroticism as a form of self-affirmation, others as a new form of subjection.

Yeah, well, sexual liberation in this country has always been about women embracing their sexuality and not being held prisoner to Victorian standards where not even ankles may be shown.

It's simply interesting that now, women exposing their legs and bit of cleavage is considered oppression, when in most actually oppressive societies throughout history, women had to be (or currently must be) covered so as to hide their sexuality.

I don't know how getting into a snit over Hooters is anything BUT prudishness.

My niece's partner just went for her photoshoot for the next Hooters calender this morning in fact. Neat coincidence. They stayed the night here since it cut the morning drivetime down by an hour...I thought I was never going to get into the bathroom this morning while she got ready.

Pix or GTFO! :D

Clearly to not be oppressed, women have to wear exactly the right amount of clothing. No more, no less, period, no questions, or you're being oppressed. Waiiit a minute...

Every woman I've known that worked at Hooters claimed they made VERY good money there.

Ive never been to a Hooters. I heard the Hooters girls in Biloxi were a little...seasoned...and not the better for wear...but...thats as far as my 'hands on' Hooters experience goes. However if I was looking for a cause to adopt and allegedly worried about young girls and their future, i might be more concerned with parents buying them Bratz dolls or Britney Spears CDs...

you've been a hooters girl, then? (ducks)

I don't think I would make a good Hooters girl

Yeah... can't imagine why these girsl might make a decent amount in tips

You realize that most of the girls don't look like that, right? They pick people for pictures like that from a national pool.

When I read this, I thought, "Exactly what standing does NOW have to sue Hooters?" Then I notice that they "filed complaints." The headline is misleading.

Jeesh! Can't they just write a letter to the editor??
Isn't filing a complaint the way lawsuits get started?

So NOW supports a moms right to slaughter her unborn child, but not her choice of what clothes to put on the child? geez...that choice thing is tenuous...
Well, you know, they're all about pro-choice so long as you choose what they agree with.

stop trying to spoil my fun! :2razz:

Should I mention that there was one of that national pool of Hooters girls spending the night here last week? I would make a ****ty Hooters girl, but my nieces partner makes a damn good one.
