SAN FRANCISCO — The National Organization for Women filed complaints against local Hooters restaurants Thursday,.......The subject this time was Hooters’ catering to children.

What’s more, the organization said, Hooters provides child menus, high chairs and booster seats, and sells T-shirts in children’s sizes that identify the wearer as a “Future Hooters Girl.”

I thought California was at the forefront of sexual liberation and anti-prudishness.

I feel sorry for the little girls whose parents would dress them in those shirts... how embarrassing. I don't think that is funny... pretty tasteless, but not illegal. I can't believe those shirts would actually sell..
It doesn't have to be illegal to sue over it.
To sue, you do have to show that you were somehow harmed, iirc. I am not sure that there's harm to be shown. I mean not harm from hooters. Perhaps from the parents who buy these for their little girls, but the parents aren't the ones being sued.

Upon actually reading the article, [*ahem*] I now notice that the suit is because they're and "adult entertainment" venue and serving children

The girls at Hooters are wearing a lot more than most girls wear at the beach. I just don't see the problem, or how Hooters should be classified as "adult entertainment, no kids". Some of those kids older sisters wear clothing just as bad or worse to school.

I'll grant you the "Future" T-shirts are in poor taste, and I sure as @#$# would not put one on my daughter, if I had a daughter. (Instead I have a teenage son who likes to eat at Hooters. )

My niece's partner just went for her photoshoot for the next Hooters calender this morning in fact. Neat coincidence. They stayed the night here since it cut the morning drivetime down by an hour...I thought I was never going to get into the bathroom this morning while she got ready.

Why are the t-shirts in poor taste? Is there something wrong with being a waitress at hooters?

Sexual liberation is relative. In the ancient world, making it hard to get a divorce passed for liberation because it protected women from being abandoned through the tyrannical whims of their husbands. In contemporary times, some interpret capitalized eroticism as a form of self-affirmation, others as a new form of subjection.

Why are the t-shirts in poor taste? Is there something wrong with being a waitress at hooters?

The company actively markets itself through women's sex appeal. Some people believe basing one's self-worth and career solely on their attractiveness is wrong, ostensibly because it discourages women from developing authentic personalities or substantial achievements.

It is probably not something that most fathers' envision as a preferred career for their daughters. Especially not when their daughters are little.

I think a little toddler girl wearing a "future Hooters waitress" T-shirt is a bit sick.

I don't think Hooters is usually any kind of career choice, but rather an interim job. It just seems funny to me, that in this PC culture where we're supposed to celebrate everyone's choices without making any value judgments NOW has a problem with Hooters. Sounds like simple jealousy to me.

It's an excellent example of the schizophrenic attitude to sexuality. "It's fine for anyone else's daughters but not mine."

I still think this lawsuit is complete bull****. Just a bunch of petty fascists trying to force their will off on others. It's not that difficult to not buy a shirt.

LOL!

I guess I'm a horrible parent. When my oldest son was about 5 months old, right before we left Hawaii, I went to Hooters with him and about 5 of my girlfriends. He was wearing a little onesie that said "Can I try one?". The waitresses all thought he was adorable.

Yes, you are a terrible parent. You essentially dangled all that free milk in front of the poor little guy, and he couldn't get any of it.

The worst part is, I had just stopped breast feeding him less than a month before doing that.

Human motivation is complex, and while there are resemblances exist between the ideals and practices of which a culture consists, they are riddled with the same tensions that exist in biological families. Families may stand united against outside threats, but internally there are divisions. So it is with cultures. They are less of a codified list of precepts and more of a living organism, which acts according to diverse and often contradictory impulses.

Anyway, value judgments are dangerous. They gratify the ego from which they originate, and the gratification tends to be more compelling than doing justice to the reality of the object or person they esteem or vilify. It is hard to maintain the honesty and self-criticism necessary to produce fair value judgments.

I think this pic sums it up.

Attractive women have been against capitalizing on sexuality, which feeds into my point about value judgments. They distort reality.

NOW sues Hooters « Don Surber

The restaurants in San Francisco, San Bruno, Sacramento and Orange County are classified as “adult entertainment” establishments but also serve minors, NOW’s California chapter said in papers filed with police and prosecutors.

What’s more, the organization said, Hooters provides child menus, high chairs and booster seats, and sells T-shirts in children’s sizes that identify the wearer as a “Future Hooters Girl.”

Part of me hates Hooters.
Part of me wants this to go through.

But another part of me also doesn't give a ****.
This other part of me also notices that little girls wear skimpy clothes and shirts that say "My Mom is a Milf" and so much more - which their parents also buy.

If they're going to have issues they need to confront the PARENTS - not the establishments who are merely catering to what the PARENTS are willing to purchase.
If they weren't going to purchase said items or bring said children then there wouldn't be an issue.

So, even though I'm conflicted - I say **** 'em, NOW should back off of something that is really NOT an issue at this present moment in time.

Are you sure they are attractive women?

As Henry Rollins would say, "someone saw you this week and said 'damn, yeah, I'd **** that"

I don't see the problem personally. I've seen kids in worse
Tho I must say, I don't really get why being a waitress is bad. Is there like undercover prostitution happening or something?

Confront parents? How?
