A mandate to purchase health insurance from private insurance companies is basically the opposite of socialism. Funneling billions in taxpayer dollars into the hands of private industry via subsidies isn't socialism, because that's not what the word socialism means.

"Forced" by a $695 fine which is waived if your income is below the poverty line, you have a religious exemption, or if the health insurance would cost you more than 8% of your income. I remember when Senator Grassley was telling me how necessary the mandate was, because people without insurance constantly dump the cost of their care onto other insured patients and onto taxpayers. Now he says it's unconstitutional socialism! Boggles the mind...

Ancient Rome use to take over territories but then leave locals not only in charge, but basically allow *most* of the status quo to remain as-is. Surely we'd be liars to call that Roman takeover? Damn those lying historians.

This from the person who thinks buying things from private companies is socialism somehow.

Yes, clearly all regulation is basically like invading and conquering a sovereign nation.

Delta Airlines: Regulated by the FAA. Government takeover of the airline industry?
Perdue Chicken: Regulated by the FDA and USDA. Did I buy those chicken wings in my fridge from the government?
DirectTV: Regulated by the FCC. Who should I mail the monthly subscription fee to, again?

Socialism is an economic and political theory advocating public or common ownership and cooperative management of the means of production and allocation of resources.[1][2][3] A socialist society is characterised by a free association, which is not based on coercive wage labour. It is organized on the basis of relatively equal power relations, self-management, collective decision-making and adhocracy rather than hierarchical, bureaucratic forms of organization in the economic and political systems.
Public or common ownership? Wow, I didn't realize I was part-owner of McDonald's and Best Buy! Those, after all, are industries with regulations.

How is it made up? It is a forced bill, and you need to purchase something hence Capitalism. Just put it together and it is forced Capitalism...

No that is take over because the Romans demanded taxes. And if they didn't like policies they could enforce it. It is pratically just a satellite nation but took the same name.

Why give anything? That's buying into another right-wing lie.

"We were promised, the president said we would keep unemployment under 8.5 percent. We're now over 9.5 percent, on our way to 10 percent." - Eric Cantor

Cantor wasn't the only one, others...John Boehner, R-Ohio, Reps. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., and Lynn Westmoreland, R-Ga. all said we were "promised"

Glenn Beck said, "That was the big fear-mongering number, 9 percent. And they guaranteed if the stimulus passed, unemployment wouldn't go over 8 percent."

Sean Hannity also said the administration "promised".

In reality what it was was a report with projections concerning the unemployment rate.

Without the stimulus, unemployment was projected to hit about 8.5 percent in 2009 and then continue rising to a peak of about 9 percent in 2010. With the stimulus, they predicted the unemployment rate would peak at just under 8 percent in 2009.

There were many disclaimers in the report.

Guess who has more on that subject...LOL...

PolitiFact | Will: Obama said stimulus would cap unemployment at 8 percent
“We just simply don’t know how to govern” - Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR) a member of the House Budget Committee
