CBS News Poll: Most Oppose GOP Tax Plan

Yes, all taxation is bad as is all government. I suggest we cut the government to the bare minimum which we will never have consensus on in our society and completely dismantle the system! Never mind that the vast majority of homeless are working poor, taking whatever handouts they have will drive them to get a third or possibly fourth job! We can cut the deficit by gutting whatever glue holding society together! With higher taxes I wouldn't have enough money to buy more chinese ****. etc. blah.

Wow, that sounds great!!

Ive been listening to Hannity and Limbaugh and a morning conservative talk radio show lately. It is DISGUSTING how they twist the truth like a pretzel. Or just flat out lie. And none of them call it what it IS!!! They are calling it an economic investment. And a Tax Reinvestment Plan..... those are just TWO spin titles. (cant remember the others)
THEEEN... Hannity calls the unemployeed LAZY! They should just pull themselves up and get a job. Or two...or five jobs. Then he talks about how heroic HE was when HE had *cough* financial trouble *cough* and how he got a job in less than 16 days because of his hard work and dedication. The TOTAL ignorance of this man is HUGE. The spin and BS is also HUGE.

I am soooooooo sick and disgusted at the GOP! They ACT like they are similar to Libertarians but they are just as Socialist as Democrats!!!

Socialize the cots, privatize the gains.

I don't see how the Democrats are any better, they institute more or less the same policy, they just make a big fuss for a few months before they do.

Vote independent or not at all!

Really? Reading further...

Just 26 percent of Americans say they support extending the cuts for all Americans, even those earning above the $250,000 level, which is the GOP proposal.

And the rest of them want all of them to expire.

Most people don't know that most of the tax cuts are going to those who make 250,000 or less, not those who make more then 250,000.

mtm1963

If all are let to expire, those in the lowest bracket, now paying 10% will be paying 15%. That's a 50% increase for the poorest tax payers!
Are the dems going to let that happen just to stick it to the wealthy and the job creaters?

Oh well, tough tarts. If that's the cost of the rich paying their taxes then so be it.

what caused you to have such hatred of the rich? the rich already pay far more taxes than any objective concept of "fair"

again with the same old broken record... lets see which talking points you covered here just in that small quip

The Turtle Dude standard message

2- this makes me better than you are
3- I deserve to be rich
4- you want my money
5- you are suffering from money envy

6- the poor don't pay taxes
7 - the poor use up more services that they pay for
8 - the democrats are trying to steal my money through buying the votes of the poor

only two this time, you must try harder.

Of course, if we include the post from barb that you quoted in your post we can also hit

6- the poor don't pay taxes
8 - the democrats are trying to steal my money through buying the votes of the poor

Four now --- thats more like it.

Not too shabby Turtle. You covered five in just a short post.

Has it ever hit you that you are the only person here who sticks out their chest and tries to impress everyone in this blatant manner?

Moderator's Warning:
You two knock it off. No one wants to hear about either of you personally, so stick to the topic

Yeah! If you don't pay a specific type of tax, you don't DESERVE an opinion on things! Plus, EVERY person who pays no income tax is definitely a class-envy liberal who just wants to steal money from the rich. There are definitely no poor people who vote Republican.

Seems to me that if you are not paying federal income tax then you have no business suggesting that others should not get a tax cut or be opposed to it.

what caused you to have such hatred of the rich? the rich already pay far more taxes than any objective concept of "fair"

Yeah ? So what's an "objective concept of fair" in your book. in your SUBjective view ?
How about John Howard, hedge fund manager - does nothing for society (like firefighters or coal miners). Only manipulates money and people to enrich himself, and rakes in $ 1.5 Billion/year.
His taxes are less than the standard 35%. I'm not sure what they are exactly.

Even if they were 35%, his income (for doing nothing, essentially) would be $ 525 Million. Fair ? I'd rather see the firefighter and the coal miner get more of that money than Johnny Moneybags.
Or kids with birth defects. Or veterans returning from war missing arms and legs. Or putting people back to work fixing America's crumbling infrastructure. Or securing the Mexican border. Or fighting home-grown terrorism. That's my subjective concept of fair.

Seems to me that if you're not getting unemployment benefits you have no business suggesting others should get benefits or be opposed to it.

FALSE ! Every American citizen has a right to voice an opinion (1st Amendment). What amount of tax one pays has nothing to do with it.

The only "hate" I perceive in this thread is coming from you TurtleDude, against those who are opposed to extending the tax cuts for the rich. I don't see people hating the rich. They (myself included) just want things to be fair and proper. Bush made them unfair and unproper, and that should not be confirmed and continued, that's all.
Frankly, I think the super rich who want the tax cuts extended (this may be a small minority of them) are more sick with greed and a detachment from reality where wealth is concerned, than any sort of malice that would cause people to hate them.
I also don't think it's envy. If I had hundreds of millions of dollars ( what could I do with all that ?), I'd give most of it away to deserving poor Americans. In fact, I did do that, in a way when I owned my own business, and paid my sales reps commissions equivalent to $150/hour.

Would venture to guess that a sizable portion of those being polled have limited understanding of the issue/question. A common confusion among many still seems to be that the topic involves a Tax Cut at all.

Be interesting to see another poll in which the question was phrased:

"Do you favor raising taxes at this time?"

Suspect we could/would see different poll results....

It would be silly to poll the public on the question of "Do you favor raising taxes at this time?". Nobody is discussing raising taxes. That has already been done by the 107th Congress and signed into law by former President Bush. Its a done deal. Finished. In place. Its the law.

Dang right!! It's all about fairness. So the current path will lead to taxes being raised on the top earners by about 4.6% come January 1st. Wouldn't it be even more fair to raise their taxes by 10%? Or maybe 15%? There is a lot of money out there to be harvested in. Lots of opportunity here. Let's not think small....!!! ;)

Congratulations for thinking in the proper direction.

Congratulations for thinking in the proper direction.

It took a while but i thinks i has finally seen the light!! More tax is better!

So here is the plan:

  • Next year we raise the taxes on the rich to 100%. That oughta bring the deficit down.
  • So the following year the "rich" will all be broke so they won't have to pay any taxes. That should make them happy.
  • And since those former rich bastards are now broke and unemployed, they will be collecting Unemployment Benefits (which Pelosi assures us in the BEST way to inject money into the economy!!!)

Lordy. This plan looks like a WIN/WIN situation for everybody....!!!!!
