I've been saying this for weeks.. the only ones who think Palin is the GOP front runner are the liberals.

Right Turn - The myth of Palin's frontrunner status

...conservatives suspect there's also some mischief-making afoot -- the desire by liberal-leaning members of the media and the White House to make Palin the symbol of the Republican Party, which they are convinced will translate into her presidential run, her nomination and a shellacking for the GOP at the polls in 2012...

...the notion that she is a frontrunner is an eye-roller for most elected GOP officials (Chris Christie tipped his hand a bit on late-night TV) and even for many fans who furiously defended her against what conservatives saw as excessive and unfair criticism during the 2008 race.

Talking heads and mainstream reporters who are certain that Palin will be the nominee may not be looking to make trouble for the GOP. They are just behind the curve. In six months, when the field is better defined, we'll see who might emerge from the pack. Right now the frontrunner is "none of the above."

As much as I'd love to see Palin get the nomination (from a purely cynical perspective), I would agree that she isn't the frontrunner. I don't think Republicans will nominate her. The GOP has an historical tendency to nominate whoever's turn it is to be the nominee. In 2012, I think that would be Mitt Romney.

Besides, Romney (and most of the others) will tear Palin to shreds during the primary debates.

I agree Romney woould win debates vs. Palin... but I don't think he gets the nod either. Still too early to really tell though.

Romney's too establishment in my opinion. Whoever runs needs the tea party support.

It would explain the "and I'm a mormon" ads that are everywhere these days... trying to get LDS out of the kooky category.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that 25% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role, Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama an Approval Index rating of -17.

And brothers and sisters this is what is important and good news if we can keep it going until 2012 and we can wave goodbye to Obama once and for all.

Sarah Palin is the best thing to come along in many years if for no other reason than she is shaking up and worrying the the dumb-ass Republican old guard.

The Republicans are almost as afraid of Sarah Palin as the Left, because her personality matches the Title of her first book, Rouge.

She thinks for herself and has been less likely to fall into the party line and Republicans want control over their members.

As I have said repeatedly it now seems everyone is just repeating what they hear and have no independent knowledge of what the hell they are talking about, and it's too bad because I once thought Republicans were smarter than that.

Looks like I was wrong.

Hillary was the front runner for 2008. It doesn't mean much at the moment. And all the same parties tried this with Limbaugh in an act of desperation to protect The One, and look what happened; he and the electorate took them to the cleaners.

Obama's going to have a difficult time defending his bait and switch campaign, and all the baggage he's collected during the past 22-months alone.

Obi's an easy mark. Palin would rock his world... as she'd latch onto his obvious anti-Americanism and wouldn't let go. Obama's arrogant and dismissive grins would be wiped off his face; for his lies aren't going to work a second time. He's lost the most important voting block, and I don't see them coming back for he's exposed his true self. A deaf Alinsky, Wright, Ayers radikal, and a crybaby of majestic proportions.

If they had one of those smilie/emoticon/thingies that was 'whistling past the graveyard' it would describe perfectly the opening post. Columns like this are motivated by a stong desire for the GOP to win in two years and the realization that if it is Palin playing the role of the banner bear in a modern version of the painting Liberty Leading The People, she is doomed . It will be another 1964 with Barry Goldwater. It has been documented that the Kennedy team in 63 hoped that Goldwater would be the GOP nominee and that JFK would thrash him in a Democratic landslide. They were half right.

I suspect that some conservatives are deathly afraid of that particular historical election repeating itself, wiping away the gains of four weeks ago, and giving the hated Obama four more years. Then all they can hope and pray for is another Dallas motorcade.

So it's liberals fault that she is becoming a symbol of the Republican Party? Not because she was ya'lls last VP candidate or anything crazy like that. Liberals gave her her own highly watched reality show I'm sure, liberals went out and purchased her books, liberals signed her up for Fox news and liberals hack into her twitter and facebook and post her messages...

Is there anything that conservatives won't try to unfairly blame on liberals?

Do you not realize there's a difference between someone being the front runner for the Presidency and someone liked by the voter base?

I like a lot of Sarah Palin's views and aside from a few things that stand in the way I would be a fan of her. I'd hardly say she was my front running pick for the white house.

I think there's a large number of conservatives who like Sarah Palin as a politician, but don't see her as their top pick for president for a number of reasons. Its not hard of unfathomable. The same is true of Newt for many. Its unquestionable that he was liked by Conservatives years back, but almost everyone would say at that time he wouldn't be their pick to run for the Presidency.

I believe the article is trying more to say that this notion that its Palin in 2012, that its Palin that's going to be the unquestionable choice to run against Obama, is being floated by Democrats. Which, in a way, doesn't surprise me. Taking the microcosm of this board, far more often do I see people like Disneydude or others going on and on about "palin 2012" and pushing that notion as if its a done deal that will definitely happen than I do any conservatives.

One of Palin's strengths is the "i'm a victim" mentality. Because of that, her losing a debate might actually be good for her popularity.

I guess you could say that but the only times I see liberals talking about it is when they are joking around and obviously so.

I also don't think it matters. She won't run period. My bet of up to 200$ in DP donations still stands that she won't run. It's pointless for liberals to even concern themselves with her right now.

Mainly I wanted to point out that this article goes straight to the good old talking points. If and when there's a problem, blame the media. A conservative gets stumped on a question during an interview? Lame stream media. Scandal about a conservative leaks.... lame stream media etc. etc. It's starting to get very old and very predictable.

Excellent column. Provides a nice reality check to the "Palin sensationalism" the press and some of the pundits have been running with lately....;)

As the economy (Hopefully) improves over the next couple years, the tea party will become less and less relevant.

I don't know of many liberals who think Palin is the front runner. We wish she was, because we think she would be easy to beat in the general, but we don't think she is likely to get the nomination.

Why do you liberals start so many threads on Palin?

The only ones who think she is the symbol of the Republican party ARE the liberals... we Republicans don't view her as such, so yes... it's their fault.

The rest of your nonsense has nothing to do with the issue.

Damn, I'm glad you answered that for me. It's very nice to have the official spokesperson for the Republican party here so that he can tell me what all Republicans are thinking.

So who are you going to elect next election? You know, since you know exactly what every republican is thinking...

yeah... and no liberals think THEY know what every Republican is thinking, right?
Please.

So it's ok because those mean liberals did it first? Seriously?

And I'm sure that there are liberals out there thinking they know that. I think you and I can agree that they are political hacks. What does that make you dude?

Someone who has better things to do than deal with a whiner who is upset I 'labeled' him and his party.

It's ok. Deep down you know it was a silly thing to do and act like you knew what all Republicans are thinking. I know youre sensible enough to know that. It was an honest mistake I'm sure.

Glad you're here to tell us what all liberals are thinking.

Really dude? lol. Read what I wrote.

" but the only times I see liberals talking about it"

That doesn't mean I know what they are thinking. The only time I've seen liberals talk about Palin being the republican pick is when they are joking around about how good it would be for democrats if she were. That's a big difference from acting like I know what all liberals are thinking. I can't even believe you tried pulling this lame stunt, lol.

I thought I just posted this but can't find it. Anyway....if Palin runs, it's going to be an uphill battle against the media. It's all hate Palin all the time.
I found this and I agree with some of it but not the part where she would LOSE. :)

Mark McKinnon, former advisor to John McCain, begs Palin not to run for president:
If Palin runs, I think the entire Republican primary process will be hijacked. With ardent fans and a rabid media, it will become Palin-palooza. A celebrity fest will follow with even more amplitude than the adulation and adoration that surrounded Barack Obama, who was so revered he was sometimes referred to in biblical proportions as “The One.” An all-consuming super nova, Palin will suck the oxygen out of every room, everywhere she goes. And one of two things will happen. Discerning conservative voters in early primary states will be offended by the circus-like atmosphere and the presumption that they could so easily fall for a “cult of personality.” And they will vote against her. And she will lose. Or, Republican voters will be completely swept up in the mania and nominate her as the GOP standard bearer to go up against President Obama. And she will lose—perhaps the only Republican nominee who could lose in 2012.

and what is wrong with that?

Republican talking point number 1: when in doubt, blame the media!
