Airport Security: Let's Profile Muslims

Exactly. Terrorism is, was, and always will be, a very unlikely event. It doesn't happen very often, but it's very high-profile when it does. I'm pretty sure that the average person has a greater chance of being randomly struck by lightning than to be killed in a terrorist attack. The great lengths we go to, where we sacrifice time, money, privacy, dignity, our pretext of religious and racial equality, and our constitutional freedoms... have all served to perhaps make an incredibly rare event slightly rarer. The cost we have paid is HUGE compared to the negligible return.

In fact we take precautions in our homes, and often in our personal behavior, not to be struck by lightening. We discourage drunk driving, though the odds of getting killed by a drunk might be high.

We take precautions in personal safety every day, and taking precautions against Muslim terrorists, or any terrorists, is no different.

Oh please, I can't beleive that you never heard of Matthew Shepard, or the Christens Kill the gays bill in Uganda. Or the recent incidents in which 4 teens killed themselves because they were bullied for being gay.

Well, if we're not killing gay teens on airplanes, then this is completely off topic.

Next.

Quick question...

How do you know someone is a Muslim at the airport security gate? Do they dress like a Muslim? well then the Muslim-terrorist just won't look like one. Do they talk with an Arabic accent? Well not all Muslims are Arab and one can be taught an American or other accent in phrases needed to get through an airport. Do we ask everyone in the US what their religion, because of domestic terrorists, as well as those entering the US? They can lie...

How do we do it?

The common sense answer is that you can't pinpoint who is a Muslim or not based on looks. If wearing a hijab would make me stand out and cause me to be searched. I'd simply not wear my hijab

A unrecognised element in this thread is the growing number of White female converts to Islam. I don't suppose anyone remembers the Extremist plotting to kill the cartoonist was a blonde haired, blue eyed convert.

Does she look like a terrorist?

Perhaps not. But she blew herself up in Iraq and killed a few American soldiers
Profiling will not work. It is too vast

No system is perfect but that does not mean we shouldn't try every avenue possible in order to prevent terrorism.
