That sounds a helluvalot more complicated actually. I would do it a different way but the mythtv videolan method isn't exactly easy sounding either.

I've used one - don't own one, now, though.
It was simple. It's just a small box that can sit behind your tv set out of sight. With whatever adapters necessary (svga or vga, etc) you plug your video (only) into one end - then plug the box into your recorder (dvr, computer, etc).
The last time I used it there was an 'on/off' switch on the grex box. Flip it on - start the play on the tv or whatever, start the record - there you go.

Sometimes the box would flubb up and let some of the signal through which would end the recording process. but most of the time it worked fine.

I'm sure they've improved them since then - and have programmed them with multiple-filters to filter our a variety of signals (seeing as how, surely, they've had to get more varied in order to go around said filter methods).

HipHop? People might well be concerned if this were a story related to some form of music.

They weren't just going after nerds downloading music. They were going after large counterfeiting operations too, companies that make knockoff jerseys and whatever.

That C in ICE stands for Customs. This is part of their domain. It's not like "letting people go." Nobody is being let go. Law enforcement can do two things at the same time.


Besides, the way ICE went about "seizing" these websites literally takes one line of code entered into a DNS server. It probably took all of ten minutes to actually implement this. Resources are not being redirected from scary brown people crossing the Mexican border. What they did was just redirect the DNS server to a website that has their logo on it saying "THIS DOMAIN HAS BEEN SEIZED." You can actually still access all of these websites directly by entering their IP addresses.

edit: Some of these websites aren't based in the US even. ICE can't kick down a door in China and confiscate a server. They'd get shot.

OK...so we havent touched the illegal immigration problem and we focus more on our citizens than on the people that pose a threat...but at least we LOOK pro-active.

The trouble with certain types of libertarians is that they think they can sit on the sidelines and criticize both sides without doing any of the work. That's the trouble with SOME libertarians, they are like the welfare collectors of politics; lots of talking and criticizing without any responsibility, given they can't win an election.

What do you mean by responsibility? And yes, since we havent won elections all we may do is criticize. I'm not sure why this is so bad to you.
