A state representative on Tuesday filed a bill that would require any candidate for president or vice president of the United States to show his or her birth certificate to the Texas secretary of state, another indication of just how ambitious the conservative agenda for next year's session of the Texas Legislature is expected to be.

That's it, folks. From now on, any time I leave Texas to visit another state, I will be sure to cover my license plate, and wear a bag over my head. I don't want anybody to know that I am from the state that has the bat as it's official state seal. The stupidity here in Texas has now become overwhelmingly embarrassing.

Actually, I think it doesn't go far enough. Any candidate for Congress at both Federal and State levels should have to be vetted by the FBI to assure the public that they meet the requirements for holding the office for which they're running. This should be done before their names go on a ballot.

Actually, they already do that, and have been doing that for decades. But that's not good enough for the bat**** insane crowd.

AHA! Proof that the birther agenda is the conservative agenda!

I just wanna nuke Oklahoma thats all.
I doubt anyone would notice if we did. Well, at least people would notice the general stupidity quotient had gone down with Bob Stoops' demise.

As to the topic of the thread, I think anyone running for office should have to produce a document showing that he/she is basically sane. Not everyone has that.

That's too stupid to pass. What a waste of legislative time.

A candidate from Wisconsin, running for prez, would have to submit a BC to the Texas secretary of state? I'd like to see them enforce that one.

Ya think maybe that WS candidate might want to be included on the TX ballot? :doh

You have to admit though that the people who wrote the Texas constitution were incredibly wise to see to it that the legislature only meets every other year. Too bad the US Constitution wasn't written that way.

Ture, it was incredibly wise of them. Agreed about the Us Constitution.

Please post a link.

When I joined the Army, I had to produce my birth certificate. I don't have a problem with future CIC's having to produce theirs's. Shouldn't be all that hard for them to do so. Yes?

Why do you ridicule this plan when all it does is reinforce a requirement found in the Constitution?

What are you a "FIRSTER" or just another Ant-American Constitutionalists?

Surely, it's not, but what it looks like is that this Texas law is a response to the birther wackiness. It's embarrassing. That's probably why he ridicules it.

I'm convinced you have to prove that you're an American citizen to run for most high positions of government. That includes presidential runs. If Obama's Hawaii birth certificate is good enough for the FBI, CIA, NSA, DoJ, DoD and Pentagon, who am I to disagree?

I do not think it is any big deal. Its redundant considering the fact this is already done on the federal level. It's just a little extra reassurance and when 2012 rolls around the birther-tards will finally have to shut the **** up.

James, I have looked all over the internet for something that indicates all candidates are officially vetted. Do you have a link? I think it's an assumption we make.

Really? no wonder the czars didn't run for office.
