So How Did the Bush Tax Cuts Work Out for the Economy?

I have to agree. The Bush tax cuts didnt do much to help anyone but the wealthy. I would like to see FACTUAL evidence that it was a positive move by Bush.

what rot-tax cuts went to everyone who paid income taxes. ask those who got tax cuts if they helped-they sure helped my family. we gave a bunch more to the college my mother attended, and the grade schools my kid and his cousins attend.

that the wealthy got the most cuts is not surprising given the top 5% pay more than half the income taxes.

Easy to say. And on one level, likely true. But to answer this question you have to show something different, that it helped the economy or provided jobs. Not much evidence to support the larger claim.

You mean wall street then?

wrong-dem voters-the ones who outsource personal responsibility to the government. the people who think they are poor not because they are untalented or unproductive but because they got "Screwed" by wall street. A girl I used to date-saw her for the first time since I left grad school a few years ago. She had earned an MBA and JD at a top program. At my 25th college reunion she showed up (85 degree weather-typical New Haven on Memorial day) in a business suit, heels, hose, silk blouse etc while the rest of us were wearing t-shirts and shorts. She was a senior VP and Goldman -Sachs and by then had two children. She noted she might have to catch the late train back to the city to work on some stuff that Friday night. She also noted she was not working as many hours as she had before she had children-down to about 55-60 a week. Yeah she made alot of money. easily a million with bonuses. She told me the sort of hours she had put in for the 20 years since I had least seen her. She noted people like her -with three Ivy honors+ degrees working 70 hours a week, delaying having a family etc-were common in her business.

its fashionable to bash "wall street" and the Ivan Boeskies etc of the world. It soothes the hurt of people who couldn't imagine working as hard as people like this woman. But the fact remains, most of those people are extremely talented, very dedicated honest people who work their asses off for what they earn

When the dead horse is better than anything the Democrats call "new ideas", the dead horse is obviously better. What the Dems are doing is killing this country --- call me crazy but when a choice is a dead horse or a dead country, I'll pick the horse every time.

Don't believe anything you read. Look around your city. Here in Grand Junction, Target, Walmart, K mart, grocery stores parking lots are full, more traffic, more buying all the time. And I haven't seen a homeless man in a year.

Recession, just another contrived political trick?

if you had to pay more taxes you might have got a bigger tax cut

again if you want the middle class to get more tax cuts start advocating that the middle class start paying more taxes

a cute picture that is full of excrement in what it is trying to say

with every post you reveal how little you really know...

well when it comes to making money and paying top bracket taxes I clearly know more than you will ever imagine. I find it funny that people who don't succeed pretend to have so much more knowledge than those who have.

You clearly have a very active imagination. And the anonymous internet provides the perfect outlet.

I find it funny that people who don't succeed pretend to have so much more knowledge than those who have.

Did you see the movie Catfish, yet?

I think it could be a very therapeutic experience for you.

You can pretend all you want even though others have informed you. But the fact remains, most of the rants about the tax cuts comes from those who don't have the juice to be major league tax payers and are envious of those who do.
Why would I need education from you? I completed law school

Others? Who would that be?

The fact remains that you have never demonstrated in any thread even a basic understanding of the tax code or economics.

Though, you are quite talented at parroting talk radio talking points.

Well, since you brought it up, I have never seen anything that verifies that statement. IMO - You're complete lack of knowledge about the tax code would also indicate that you are not credible. Perhaps if you would actually post something other than generalized partisan talking points, we might be more convinced.

tell me hazlnut, if you are so wise about economics how come you aren't close to being in the top tax bracket? I have seen nothing from you that demonstrates you have a clue about how taxes work. All I see is someone who is mad that others are wealthy and you want the government to punish them.

I posted many detailed explanations for you, hoping to help you get a handle on some basic concepts... but you were unable to respond with any specifics, just the same broken record mindless talking points.

For example:

All I see is someone who is mad that others are wealthy and you want the government to punish them.
- another broken record talking point.

Next time we cover some economics or tax topics, I'll try to go slow when explaining things.

Yeah I amused at your attempts. perhaps you ought to apply your vast knowledge to your personal economic condition and you can join me in being a high net taxpayer and with that perspective you will understand why its idiotic to keep jacking up taxes on other people

From your replies in those threads, I'm pretty sure I was talking over your head.

Again, the broker recored. That's all you ever say. You can never actually explain your position beyond the broken record moronic right-wing radio talking points. You just repeat the same delusional nonsense over and over and over... But you never really say anything.

I agree with Hazelnut. First of all, you talk like the goal in life is to make to the high tax brackets. My goal is to make sure I have enough to live on retirement comfortably and afford my children's education. Anymore is called excess. Excess should be taxed. Why is cigarettes taxed heavily, a table taxed moderately and food taxed none in WI? The first is not necessary. The second is necessary some of the time. And the third is necesarry all the time. The same applies to people who obviously dont work 20x more/harder than somebody, but makes 20x more than somebody.

Good points....too much money causes problems that most of us don't want to deal with.

I know one would normally think that the more technology that there is then you would naturally need more educated people. But that's not entirely true. Technology has gotten to the point where a simple push of the button and reading some readouts will do the trick, combined with quality inspectors and thats much of all that needs to be done. Those people could be trained by the company itself to do what needs to be done, they could even train people for the jobs that do require hands on work. And really, wouldn't a company rather have someone that is trained for the specific job they need with their particular quirks in mind than someone fresh out of college that thinks they know what the company needs?

I've always been an advocate of hiring from within, but I'm sure there's more to this "knowledge and technology" issue than either of us could hope to identify in a few brief posts. Still, you do make a valid point.

Sounds alot like class envy to me.

Just because that what you want out of life doesn't mean that you get to force everyone else to accept that out of life.

Bottom line is, some people are more motivated and more ambitious than others. Those more motivated and ambitious people shouldn't be punished.

How are you going to feel, if one day, an agenda come along that says that having, " enough to live on retirement comfortably and afford my children's education", is considered excess and tells you that you must give up half of it? Basically, that's door you're opening.

The poor, struggling millionaires and billionaires, suffering under the yoke of 19% tax rates.

I await with baited breath for you to show us which millionares and billionares pay a 19% tax rate.

Take your time formulating your answer.

a funny comment from those who spend so much time arguing in favor of confiscatory tax rates imposed on those who are more industrous than they are.

they talk out of their butts-they make this crap up in order to justify their envy. the top tax payers pay higher rates of taxes on like income as the whiners do

it is class envy and what is really funny is what motivates it

what motivates it is the delusion that the big bad market doesn't value them as much as they value their own worth. They are mad--they claim to be brilliant yet they don't get genius wages. so they want the government to punish those who they believe are less entitled to wealth than they are.

Good points....too much money causes problems that most of us don't want to deal with.

You don't seem to have a problem with a 6 figure retirement.
