On the tape Angle can be heard, both boasting about her clout in Washington and blasting Republican leaders for their lack of principles.

“The Republicans have lost their standards, they’ve lost their principles,” Angle says. “Really that’s why the machine in the Republican Party is fighting against me. ...They have never really gone along with lower taxes and less government.”

But Angle says her grassroots support gives her “juice” with Republican leaders in Washington.

“I go to Washington, DC and want to see Jim DeMint, he’s right there for me. I want to see Tom Coburn, he’s right there for me. I want to see Mitch McConnell, he’s there,” she says.

At the meeting’s outset, Ashjian seems open to a deal, suggesting if he can get an apology from the Tea Party Express, “we can get on board.” He claims he does not want money, wants the lawsuits about his candidacy to go away – remember those voicemails from GOP lawyer Cleta Mitchell posted elsewhere on my blog suggest she was trying to “settle” something with him. By the end of the meeting, it’s clear this attempted backroom bargain is going nowhere – and I’m not sure Ashjian ever wanted it to.

There’s a lot more, too, including:

----Angle’s open disgust with her own party’s leaders and principles (or lack thereof)

----James’ obvious abandonment of Ashjian’s candidacy and insistence that Angle will lose unless he withdraws and that there is still time to get his name off the ballot

----Some brief trashing of Sen. John Ensign by Ziser and Ashjian

----Ashjian’s claims of physical threats and of being followed

----Angle’s agreement with him that both major parties are “corrupt”

----Angle’s claim to have taken over the Washoe County Republican Party and having her “guys” in the Clark County GOP

----Her promise to deliver to Ashjian “anything I can personally,” including an apology from the Tea Party Express after the election.

It is a unique and quite entertaining fly-on-the-wall look inside a campaign.

This isn't new... the GOP has shown their hand, and it's a bit pink. Conservatives have been making this claim for a long time. Stop running RINO's and being such panderers.

Doesn't mean Reid will win... there's something called an election and turnout. Reid has a 1.4% lead... with a month to go... and a brutal president and record to defend.

It's wide open.

You may be correct , but it has more to do with demographics than any new Liberal ideas that can actually work.

Angle, O'Connell in Delaware & Rand Paul in Kentucky are in actuality 2nd stringers - unseasoned - yet they might slide by and Win. Obama does not mind and he surely wants Sarah Palin front & center for the next 24 months. If Everything goes real well for the GOP this time out with TP jubilation - odds are Barry gets another 4 years.

I know some Conservatives cannot accept this however. They are purists more interested in eliminating other Republicans than making any genuine gains.

The recording is worth listening to in full despite its poor quality. It suggests that -- at least for the purposes of this conversation with a Tea Party figure -- behind the facade of a real grassroots outsider who hates the organized Republican Party is ... a real grassroots outsider who hates the organized Republican Party.

...

Angle emerges as a very reluctant Republican, one who speaks with pleasure of the "moaning and groaning and weeping and gnashing" that greeted her victory among Washington Republicans. And the degree to which her and her allies are going to be directing their demands for change at the Republican party itself shouldn't be underestimated.

Reid is extremely moderate (although far-righties won't see him as such) and does solid job or corralling the progressives.

Obama has dug himself such a huge hole, and has a record he has to defend... he can't run and hide, won't get away with Yes We Can, Hope, Change and We are the ones we are waiting for...

He'll have more on his hands than Palin... he'll be busy running away from himself.

I hope someone challenges the incompetent for the Dem nomination; won't happen, but might be their saving grace.

I seriously doubt any Democrat - other than Hillary - takes him on. She BTW is as Far left as he is though emotionally appealing to a different base.

Palin if nominated will lose. She's been stigmatixed and it will stick. Sure, She's no dunce - but She is not up to the Big Fight where SHE is the Candidate.

Alittle homework (not to mention paying attention to more recent news) will show you that TARP, which bailed out the banks and GM/Chysler, wasn't Pres. Obama doing. These initiative were authorized under G. W. Bush and for what it's worth when you take an indepth look into the banking and housing crisis, you realize he did the right thing. All Pres. Obama did was pickup where GW Bush left off. In fact, the Obama Administration "fine tuned" those aspects of TARP that had grey areas to ensure bank CEOs no longer received bonuses and that the American taxpayers stood a chance to recoup the money the Treasury put up.

On November 12, 2008, Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson indicated that reviving the securitization market for consumer credit would be a new priority in the second allotment.[17][18]

On December 19, 2008, President Bush used his executive authority to declare that TARP funds may be spent on any program he personally deems necessary to avert the financial crisis. This has allowed President Bush to extend the use of TARP funds to support the auto industry, a move supported by the United Auto Workers.

On December 31, 2008, the Treasury issued a report reviewing Section 102, the Troubled Assets Insurance Financing Fund, also known as the "Asset Guarantee Program." The report indicated that the program would likely not be made "widely available."[19]

On January 15, 2009, the Treasury issued interim final rules for reporting and record keeping requirements under the executive compensation standards of the CPP.[20]

On January 21, 2009, the Treasury announced new regulations regarding disclosure and mitigation of conflicts of interest in its TARP contracting.[21]

On February 5, 2009, the Senate approved changes to the TARP that prohibit firms receiving TARP funds from paying bonuses to their 25 highest-paid employees. The amendment was proposed by Christopher Dodd of Connecticut as an amendment to the $900 billion economic stimulus act yet to be passed.[22]

On February 10, 2009, the newly confirmed Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner outlined his plan to use the $300 billion or so remaining in the TARP funds. He intended to use $50 billion for foreclosure mitigation and use the rest to help fund private investors to buy toxic assets from banks. Nevertheless, this highly anticipated speech coincided with a nearly 5 percent drop in the S&P 500 and was criticized for being short on details.[23]

On March 23, 2009, U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner announced a Public-Private Investment Program (P-PIP) to buy toxic assets from banks' balance sheets. The major stock market indexes in the United States rallied on the day of the announcement rising by over six percent with the shares of bank stocks leading the way.[24] P-PIP has two primary programs. The Legacy Loans Program will attempt to buy residential loans from bank's balance sheets. The FDIC will provide non-recourse loan guarantees for up to 85 percent of the purchase price of legacy loans. Private sector asset managers and the U.S. Treasury will provide the remaining assets. The second program is called the legacy securities program, which will buy mortgage backed securities (RMBS) that were originally rated AAA and commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) and asset-backed securities (ABS) which are rated AAA. The funds will come in many instances in equal parts from the U.S. Treasury's TARP monies, private investors, and from loans from the Federal Reserve's Term Asset Lending Facility (TALF). The initial size of the Public Private Investment Partnership is projected to be $500 billion.[25] Economist and Nobel Prize winner Paul Krugman has been very critical of this program arguing the non-recourse loans lead to a hidden subsidy that will be split by asset managers, banks' shareholders and creditors.[26] Banking analyst Meredith Whitney argues that banks will not sell bad assets at fair market values because they are reluctant to take asset write downs.[27] Removing toxic assets would also reduce the volatility of banks' stock prices. This lost volatility will hurt the stock price of distressed banks. Therefore, such banks will only sell toxic assets at above market prices.[28]

On April 19, the Obama administration outlined the conversion of Banks Bailouts to Equity Share.[29]

Think about it this way...

Had the Treasure just gave the banks and auto industry loans with no collateral (i.e., assets, i.e., common/preferred stock or bonds) nor guarantees ("warrants") on how the Treasury would be paid back, the banks, GM & Chrysler would have merely walked away with billions of free taxpayer dollars. Atleast by having these private entities "pony up" something (not to mention adhere to tough guidelines) the "People" were assured most if not all of the money would be repaid - most in short order, the rest over time either through the sell of remaining stock/bonds on the financial market or by having these same private entities buy same back once they became more solvent.

Not all the TARP funds have been repaid, but alot of it has been.

Of the $245 billion invested in U.S. banks, over $169 billion has been paid back, including $13.7 billion in dividends, interest and other income, along with $4 billion in warrant proceeds as of April 2010.

And the interest, dividend and principal payments have gone toward reducing the deficit.

So, while people (mostly Republicans and Conservatives) continue to harp on this issue, you can stop now! Congress ended TARP 10/03/10 and by all accounts most entities who received bailouts through this program are on schedule to meet their financial obligation to the Treasury within the next year.

As for Sharron Angle, Nov 2 is still just under 28 days away. I doubt she'll get the Republican backing she may have been looking for, but without it I doubt she can win. Still, the People have to come out and vote. So, who knows what will happen.

As to Palin throwing her name into the 2012 Presidential race, I wish she would! I'd be the first to call her a "celebraty" and "rock star" and elitist just as she and McCain claimed Obama was. I mean, look at how she has extended her 15-minutes of fan. C'mon!!

I've had more than enough of this woman and wish she'd just go the hell away already!

Reid on the Ropes in Nevada

Republican Sharron Angle seems to be solidifying her support in her bid to unseat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in Nevada.

In the latest Fox News battleground state poll of likely voters, Angle drew 49 percent to Reid’s 46 percent. As voters make up their mind with four weeks to go until Election Day, Angle seems to have the edge.

In the first Fox battleground poll in the Silver State four weeks ago, 10 percent of respondents were either unsure, in favor of a minor party candidate or, as state law allows in Nevada, planning to vote for "none of these candidates."

In this week's poll, those three categories add up to 5 percent. Over the same period, Angle’s overall vote percentage went from 45 percent to 49 percent.

Democratic strategists hope to prevent an Angle win by driving up her unfavorable ratings and pushing voters to choose a minor party candidate or “none of these.” Angle was viewed unfavorable by 53 percent in the survey. But Reid was viewed unfavorably by 55 percent.

Angle's supporters are growing more certain of their support, too. Two weeks ago, 10 percent of Angle supporters said they could still change their minds. That number has dropped to 4 percent.

While Angle's lead is still within the poll’s 3-point margin of error, this is the first Fox battleground poll in Nevada to show a difference of more than 1 point.

The survey generally reflects a sharpening of opinion in Nevada. A strengthening among Democrats lifted Obama's job approval from 40 percent to 44 percent. Support for the Tea Party movement, meanwhile, rose from 25 percent to 30 percent.

The race remains a true tossup, though, because voters aren’t very happy with their choices. Fifty six percent of all voters said Reid had been in office too long and 53 percent said Angle’s views were "too extreme."

latest polling shows Angle moving ahead and cementing her position. If she's disgusted with much of the Republican establishment, that only makes her like most Americans and especially like most voters.

yup; that's why the Tea-Party-esque candidates are going to be winning this fall. It's why Rubio took over in Florida, Rand Paul in Kentucky, and Angle could very well take Nevada.

By the way, does anyone think that Ashjian dude might be a plant by the liberals to take votes away from Angle? I heard he used to be a Dem.

It's not like Dems were saying no to TARP... come on... and then Obama blew the doors down later... with nothing to show for it.

Conservatives weren't supporters of TARP... and may I add, we didn't like Bush's spending... the Dems on the other hand believed it wasn't enough.

Depends how you define "Conservatives." How many Conservatives support the collapse of banking and financial sectors? How many Conservatives support the gutting of trillions of dollars of retirement funds? The funny **** is people like you bash Obama and Bush on TARP as well as Congressmen who voted for it while they saved your retirement funds. No good deed goes unpunished. Castle voted for TARP, saved millions of his voters' retirement funds and got kicked out for it.

"We didn't like Bush's spending. Meet Boehner and Mitchell. They are now in charge of the House and Senate. Ignore the ugly fact they partook in Bush's rampant spending.

There is one difference between the Democrats and Republicans. The Republicans pretend their beliefs are different.
 
Castle lost because a lot of angry ideologues took over the GOP in a Small State (for now) and in doing so they've conceded an easy Win to at least add on to a GOP possible Senate majority, and converted into an almost sure defeat. Polls in a small State can be deceptive, but I doubt this much ground can be made up.

The GOP has less than top notch people in tight races in several States. I use that term because them actually winning just might make things worse down the line. Rand Paul is essentially "Playing out the Clock" in Kentucky and that's the race with as of now the best Republican edge. Colorado,Nevada are losable and Connecticut may be just to big a registration margin to overcome.Linda McMahon if from a more suitable Business background just might be the more credible of the GOP newcomers.
