How many would think Obama is a Muslim IF he had not had a Mother who Married 2 Muslim Men (one of whom may be his biological father) in between numerous other arrangements with others. If he hadn't been living in a Muslim Nation from 1967 thru 1970 and listed as Muslim at school by Step Dad and hadn't later (like age 19) traveled for awhile to Pakistan and other places on a passport that has yet to be produced.

Lots of people are born in one religion and change to another...there is no law against it.

I think you're correct about that. Seeking affirmation on one's world view, and willingly suspending any disbelieve in order to have that affirmation certainly contributes to the problem. And with people making money meeting that need, and well, you have where we are today. A very sad place all and all.

I know people who went to college for 4 or more years, and came out of the experience just more fixed in their prejudices. If all we listen to is people who think the same way we do, we don't learn much. I have offered books to a few hard headed types over the years, and a few refused them. They don't want to know THE truth, they like THEIR truth too much to see it challenged.

If people were actually informed, they wouldn't support either party. Both parties are dragging the country in the wrong direction.

Well, there isn't much different in the two parties, really. And while there may be something to the lessor of two evils, paying attention would mean treating both parties with more contempt and not being as partisan as too many are.

I have dated a lot of atheists. It doesn't mean my kids are going to be atheist.

Not sure if there is any link with that to the theme of this thread. What I have tried to say is that Obama's rather unusual background and clear reluctance to discuss most of it has surely brought on a lot of the wilder speculations.
