America: Love it or (if you're rich enough) leave it?

So the people who pay no income taxes are "shouldering the burden"? How the **** do you figure?

No, the people who are shouldering the burden are those who were paying taxes and are now out of work. I'd say losing your job is certainly 'shouldering the burden'. Also, indirect taxation is increasing all the time. That takes no account of whether you are earning or unemployed, hence that burden falls most heavily on those with the lowest income.

I was not trying to make a case pro or con. I am just asking when the single piece of legislation acquired it's new name. The legislation's older name is the Bush Tax Cuts. At some point it began to also be known as Obama's Tax increases.
Oh, I know. My 'exactly', was in agreement that any increase in taxes due to the designed expiration of "Bush's Tax Cuts' is in no way, shape or form an 'Obama Tax Increase'.

I just went on to further say that I think it would be a smart move, on the dems part, to just ignore the upcoming expiration. Let it happen. Ignore it. Stop talking about it. That's how it lets the cons paint it as 'Obama's Tax Increase'.

Rather they should start trumpeting a NEW bill (forget about an extension) - refer to it as 'Obama's Tax Cuts'.

Frame it the way you want it, not the opposition.

Actually, I don't want it to revert to all incomes over $250,000. I think those making $250,000-$1,000,000 should get a tax cut, but at a reduced rate that they have now. Those making over $1,000,000 should have the tax cut totally expire though.

I was just using $250,000 because that's a cutoff point that's commonly used in news articles. I have no problems with negotiating the cutoffs and/or rates.

A couple of points using the arbitrary $250,000. Anyone making over $250,000 will receive the exact same cuts, up to $250,000 as everyone making less than that. The top tax rates not covered under new cuts will revert back to the 39.6% rates that were in effect 10 years ago. Without looking them up, I believe that's in the range of about a 3 or 4 % increase.

That's a far cry from the top rates of 50 - 90% in the 60's to 80's and folks still managed to thrive and survive.

Where are they going to go where there's less taxes? Not Europe. Not Asia.

So that leaves South America and Africa. Which means what money they won't pay in taxes they will instead pay for private security and kidnapping/ransom insurance.

Ding, ding, ding... round one knockout!!

Taxes in Taiwan are a fraction what they are in the U.S. and there is far less regulation in most areas...

And Taiwan is under constant threat of conquest from China, and Taiwan doesn't have the same guarantee of freedoms that we have in the U.S.

Have fun with the culture shock.

These rich people who whine so much should leave. Hell they spend $300 dollars on just the socks they are wearing. Perhaps they should learn how to spend their money better so when tax season comes they will have the money to pay for it. I am also forgetting that the majority do have the money to pay for taxes AND still be able to spend hundreds on clothing. So really these people can leave because it will mean I will have a chance to take the place they left empty. And I will find my way around taxes or at least not complain so much.

IT makes more sense to me to work to replace Obama and the Liberals addicted to raising taxes and spending with conservatives addicted to spending and running up the deficit while allowing the markets to be turned into a Las Vegas Casino, plus misleading us into an unfunded war...

Corrected for accuracy.:2wave:

What really confuses me is when poor and middle class argue so viciously for the rich to get tax cuts.

Probably because they understand basic economics.

I very seriously dought that. I sometimes ask people complaining about taxes to explain how the tax brackets work. Nine out of ten have no clue. The ones who complain the most often understand it the least.

Lithuania and Czech Republic has the most beautiful girls in the world. You will get a nice liberal greeting when you get there! But listen, if you are the type of conservative who believes in the "family values" scam you won't like European countries ;)

Probably because they understand basic economics.

Maybe you could elaborate from your understanding. Please explain, with real numbers not just general theory, how tax breaks spur economic growth.

Decreasing taxes does spur economic growth in some circumstances. But it's not a general panacea for economic woes.
If the gov will get around to finding spending cuts to offset the tax breaks, the tax breaks could be made permanent.

Why is it that neither party is trying to do find offsetting spending cuts?
hmmm...

I didn't know there was only so many places for rich people in America. What a concept. Yea, rich people please take your money and leave so there will be a place for me to get rich.
This is the problem with liberals. They have the mistaken idea that there are only so many pies and instead of baking their own they want slices of someone else's. They think they are entitled for some reason to steal from the baker while making no attempt to learn how to bake.
Wealth is not something that there is only so much of so must be divided up to be fair. Make your own wealth. We must pay taxes, however it is very unfair to make certain people pay a higher percentage. The richer they are, the more they are going to pay anyway.

My goodness you really are stupid.

I was being sarcastic first. But my post was telling the rich to quit their whining. But of course conservatives defend everything they are not like highly productive individuals like the rich make.

Well, jump right in with the first ignorant response.

"FYI, Russia wants just 13% of your income if you become a resident. Bulgaria will take a mere 10%. Canada's highest federal tax rate is 29%, but provincial taxes can push the top marginal rate to 48.25%."

Says so.

Right there in the link you didn't bother to read.

Right on!
I'm not sure Russia is the best choice, but the percentages are sound :)
