It's Official Jon Stewart & Colbert will host a rally on October 30th in DC

It is funnier because when Beck rally was going on she was doing the opposite.

With Beck's rally, no one really DID know what was going to happen. Just that it wouldn't be political.

With this rally, I'm just going by what I know - it's a parody of Restoring Honor and it's going to supposedly be really funny. Judging by what I know of Colbert and Stewart, they're going to be making fun of everything. What do I have wrong?

I've learned from this board that it's just going to be a laugh fest and it's obviously a parody of the Restoring Honor Rally. So...what do I have wrong?

And, gee, I remember you and others here doing that with Glenn's Rally when you had no clue what was going to happen. :)

Guess we'll see after it actually transpires.

I don't like Glenn Beck. I didn't like him before, I don't like him now. I never will like him. I prefer a keen wit and sense of humor, combined with knowledge of current events. No fear-mongering, no drama llamas. That's why Jon Stewart is exactly my cup of tea, and Glenn Beck is not.

"Obama wants to transform this country into a radical socialist paradise. If we don't do something about it, those people will ruin America" = Fearmongering

"The tea party wants to transform this country into a radical conservative paradise. If we don't do something about it, those people will ruin America" = Reasonable and rational argument.

Thanks for attributing all that to me - I assume that's what you're doing? But you don't know what I think or how I feel, so kindly stop.

Well we know what Colbert's rally is going to be like. Stewart after reading his website a bit I don't know if it will be as comical as Colbert. I am sure there will be comedy involved, but like I said from the beginning Stewart seems to be taking this a bit more serious.

I'm not claiming that you personally said either of those quotes (though it wouldn't surprise me if you agreed with the sentiment), but simply pointing out that both sides engage in the exact same type of "fearmongering." You and your side tend to see your arguments as logical and the other side's as fearmongering, while the other side does the same.

No one really knows what will happen at the rally. Stewart actually invited Bill O'reilley to attend the event last night on the Daily Show. We don't even know who the speakers will be yet.

There will undoubtedly be comedy involved but I'm hoping there will be an honest message of "tone it down America" going on.

As for Colbert's rally, there will very likely be more comedy going on than anything else.

Actually, I don't. I would really like to see the tea partiers get somewhere, our 'two-party system' is a joke.

I am tired of the assumption that I have a side. You see some portion of liberal, and you make a pronouncement. This **** really has to stop. Nobody sees anyone as a person anymore, or so it seems. It's all a stamp on the forehead and "Oh, you believe ______, therefore you are _______, and all said parties beliefs and behaviors will be attributed to you."

Of course not. I was just commenting on how crappy the lawn will look from all the lazy people throwing their trash on the ground.

I think the event will just be a circus .... making fun of our country and its citizens in the midst of the giants who made this country great. Making fun of an event (Restoring Honor) that was nothing but inspirational singing, great speakers and honoring those who do good things in our country. Making fun of that won't resonate with the majority of the people in America. I think most people will find it stupid and maybe even disrespectful.

So your opinion is that this rally will be making fun of a bunch of stuff and thus you assign what you perceive to be potential disrespect as a purpose of the rally, and then proffer potential left over litter on the lawn as a proxy indicator of this.

I'm not basing my statements off the fact that you're on the left, I'm basing my statements off of the things you've said re: the tea party/Glenn Beck. You criticized Glenn Beck for what you describe as fearmongering, yet you talk about how the right wing poses a threat to the country.

Where did I say the right wing poses a threat to the country.

From this very thread, referring to Glenn Beck:

No. He's only powerful if power is assigned to him. Those ignorant or fearful enough to give him power deserve whatever ugliness will follow in this country.

Textbook fearmongering.

From a quick search of your name w/ "dangerous" - you, describing the country:

Trust your own eyes, believe what you see. If you've been watching all along, and it looks so much worse now, that's because it is.

I've never been afraid for the life of a President like I am now. I just figured Secret Service blah-blah, everybody will be fine yada-yada. But people Truly Despise Obama. And they are armed, and making noise about taking him down so yes. This isn't just your perception. Things are ugly over here.

Oh, gotcha! So then, your gang worships Bush? I get it now.

Thanks for the clarification.

What's that you just said about lumping people into groups?

Oh, my; how awkward. You are absolutely right, sir. I stand corrected.

Even so, you were absolutely right, the right wing is a threat to the country.

I'll remember this for the next time you complain about fearmongering or over-the-top rhetoric.

Do you really not see how you're two sides of the same coin?

No not the right wing. Part of the right wing yes, but not them all.

That's the point I was trying to make. People in a box. We're all differing degrees, - even the fringe won't agree on everything!

Of course you will. Because forums are very srs bsns.

Hence why I didn't quote you, but Moot.

Do you not see how hypocritical you are when you only attack and insult those on the left for giving their opinions about what they see on tv and in the news and never those on the right for doing the same? You act like I make it all up even though I always back it up my opinions with credible evidence. Why is that, RightinNYC?

Maybe you are right and I am generalizing too much. I will try to keep what you said in mind.

I've criticized those on the right for this innumerable times, on topics ranging from Obama's secret Kenyan birth certificate to his desire to destroy America.

Be serious - do you actually think that saying "the right wing is a threat to the country" is productive and mature debate? What would you think about someone who told you that "the left wing is a threat to the country"?

I think fearmongering is dumb no matter where it comes from. If you didn't do it, then I wouldn't be criticizing you for it.

You might enjoy this rally! ;) The Huffington Post supposedly is going to be busing people from NY to the rally. Just an FYI

A little update:
Rally To Restore Sanity | Facebook

177,000 people confirmed
96,000 maybe

Even with people's lack of confidence that a Facebook confirmation will lead to attendance, it's looking like this rally is going to be huge.

"His desire to destroy America"??? Really, you have some nerve doing the very thing you are calling me out for.
