It's Official Jon Stewart & Colbert will host a rally on October 30th in DC

This is a comedic event.. .. ..by comedians. Get it?

Sure I do. That means nothing said should be taken seriously. But I tend to think Stewart wants to be taken seriously sometimes....

I am stoked these guys are having a rally... it will be a good reminder to the right and Reagan Democrats the ideology we are out to defeat.

Absolutely Perfect timing!

.
No one is mentioning the other rally and the ideology we are out to defeat.
ED Shultz, Sharpton, all their Union buds are having a Rally on the Mall Oct 2

:laughat:

And Ed can get more than 300,000 there, right?

Well, I guess I don't see everything so "black/white" as you seem to. If you have ever watched "The Daily Show", Jon Stewart is one of the brightest and best prepared interviewers on TV in any genre. Comedy does not = fallacy. Stewart is very intelligent as well as funny. Stephen is funny and a great marketer of his humor.

That has nothing to do with this thread. That might be why.

He might be smart, but he's still just a comedian. Nothing said on 10.30 should be taken seriously. Agreed?

So, in your view, satire, parody, political humor... they have no real value as far as getting us to think.

Many great thinkers would disagree...

The political and commercial morals of the United States are not merely food for laughter, they are an entire banquet.
- Mark Twain

Look at the tyranny of party -- at what is called party allegiance, party loyalty -- a snare invented by designing men for selfish purposes -- and which turns voters into chattles, slaves, rabbits, and all the while their masters, and they themselves are shouting rubbish about liberty, independence, freedom of opinion, freedom of speech, honestly unconscious of the fantastic contradiction; and forgetting or ignoring that their fathers and the churches shouted the same blasphemies a generation earlier when they were closing their doors against the hunted slave, beating his handful of humane defenders with Bible texts and billies, and pocketing the insults and licking the shoes of his Southern master.

And Ronald Reagan was just an actor. And not a very good one at that.

Well, he thinks he can get more than Beck, but I think Beck had more than that.

Off topic. They screwed with my Beck and Rush!

I used to have Beck 9-11 Rush 11-2

They gave Beck 3 hrs 10-1

Now I'm short one hr and don't know how to divide the 4 hrs :-(

I'm sick of the CHANGE I've been getting.

Cobert and stewart are no mark twain. :lamo

That has nothing to do with this thread. That might be why.

Sorry, I was thinking this was a thread about rallys in general.
You're really gonna enjoy my off topic Beck Rush Post.

I do hope you all have a good time at the rally. It should be fun.

He might be smart, but he's still just a comedian. Nothing said on 10.30 should be taken seriously. Agreed?

I disagree. The fact Stewart is focusing on people not jumping to stupid claims right away, but people should talk about it in a more adult manor is something that should be taken very seriously. The way he is spreading this message, should not take away from the message itself right?

Just like the Tea Party rallies are a bunch of angry white trash hicks pissed off that the Mexeecans are taking their jerbs, with the help of our Kenyan president. Stereotyping is fun. ;)

Stereotypes exist for a reason. I'd say the tea party is disproportionately stocked with people like that, just like this event will probably be disproportionately stocked with people like I mentioned (if facebook's list of my friends who are going is at all accurate).

This self-satisfied yuppie will be there. It's one of the nice things about living in DC. It's a fun, vaguely political event without all the anger inherent in a protest. I'm sure there will be some of that, but since the rally doesn't have any ostensibly serious political message beyond "LOL at Republicans" I think that the rage will be kept to a minimum. :)

See, I can understand going to this event if you live in DC, but what I was really thinking of when I posted that was the half dozen kids I know from NY or points beyond who are taking a bus down to go to this thing. I mean, wtf dudes. The daily show is located on 52nd st next to the hustler club. What are you going to find 5 hours away that you can't get here?

Yuppies? No, it's going to be their collage-age kids.

Kids can be yuppies too.

Which makes it a political rally. Complaining because a political rally is going to be just like a political rally is silly. Tea parties are the same way, Beck rallies the same, and this will be the same...except with jokes and humor and a less extreme point of view.

That's sort of where I'm coming from though. The tea parties are obviously political rallies. People get together to bitch about how dumb the other side is, march around with funny signs, and convince themselves that they're right. This rally is going to be the exact same thing for the other side, but they're pretending that it's something different.

maybe...but i'll bet the stewart/colbert rallies are a lot more fun.

no, it's an anti stupidity rally.

Sure. However, I wish people would adhere to that. In la-la land here, we see a number of liberals equating stupid with people who hold different policy positions than they do....thus those who attend the event with that in mind are basically acting antithetical to the entire purpose of it.

The fail my gender neutral friend is all yours, Folks like the thread starter and his ilk claim that folks like the tea party is what is "destroying America" usually it much more idiotic and vulgar terms, Other than calling Palin a whore I believe, I think yourstar is a rather civil and nice addition to this forum even if, like you, is usually wrong on most issues...

The bucket, is not needed here. :pimpdaddy:

Note: i did incorrectly reference the thread starter, instead of folks like Hazlnut who has mouthfoamed all over this thread. and for that, I do apologize to Jucon who seems to be of sound mind.

Thank you. I try to be as sane as possible :2wave:

Maybe I'm missing something, but what exactly is the attraction of this thing? It's going to be a bunch of self-satisfied yuppies sniffing their own farts and congratulating themselves on being smarter than everyone else.

I don't expect this "Rally to Restore Sanity" to be any more successful at restoring sanity to America than the "Restoring Honor" rally was at restoring honor to America.

But sometimes people need a reminder that they are not alone in their feelings about the current status and the direction of one's own country.

When it comes to certain issues, who's right and who's wrong depends on who you're talking to. We all have our own opinions... and that's the point. We can have disagreements, but in order to form a productive discourse we need remain civil.

:respekt:

Do you realize how much you sound like Glenn Beck? The bolded part is exactly the reason for the creation of the 9/12 Movement. It's interesting how many similarities people have even though they're on opposite sides of the political stream.

If people start surrounding other people, than we are in a heap of trouble.

Al Franken was just a comedian. What is Glenn Beck "just" so we can not take him seriously as well?
