What aspect of giving Law Enforcement access to it changes this?
It makes the database that much less secure.

There's always going to be distrust of government when personal information is accessed. We are asked time and time again to give up our rights to privacy for "the public good." If we don't know how/when the stop the train, it becomes a very dangerous and slippery slope.
The devil whispered in my ear, "You cannot withstand the storm." I whispered back, "I am the storm."

When that distrust comes from lack of understanding in how these systems work, then I can't give it much weight.

So making the database less secure isn't a problem?

Believe it or not, not all LEO's are trustworthy.

The government itself is not trustworthy. Today it could prescription database tomorrow it could be something else like a database on everything you buy or something else the government and private companies have no business knowing.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

    No argument here.

That is where we're going, though. There will be one gigantic database with everyone's medical data on it available to any government official, corrupt or otherwise, and to any journeyman hacker on Earth.

    I can't wait.

But do you KNOW that is the sole and only reason, or are you speculating - looking for a means to dismiss the fears?
Nationalism in high dosages may be hazardous to your health. Please consult a psychiatrist before beginning a regular regimen, and if feelings of elitism and douchbaggery continue, discontinue immediately before you become unable to do so on your own.

I wonder if people had the same concerns when we started vehicle registration and keeping that information......

I wonder if people had the same concerns when we created the idea of the "criminal record"......

    OH NOES!

I've still yet to see some kind of harm that can be done with this information..... anyone care to give me an example?
