The mainstream media is not so good at sorting out the differences between the genres.

Sorry folks whenever I hear someone like this suddenly having a religious epiphany I'm very skeptical. Gold anyone at 300 percent mark up? If you can't see this guy for what a phoney he is I feel sorry for you.

    Danger Will Robinson!

Worse yet... Beck actually believes what he says.

which faith? whose interpretation of the words? EVERY religion that originated as an offshoot of catholicism was at one time considered a cult. The catholic church itself was formed from a collection of cults, it took 300 years and orders from Constantine to make the catholics more unified in their beliefs. Many protestant faiths are more Paulist than Christian.

Beck is a Mormon, but I know a lot of Mormons who wish he wasn't.

Being recognized by the state isn't what defines religion either. Any group can form a church and file for tax exemption. That is as far as the state should go...

Over the years, there have been many anti-Catholic pushes within the Evangelicals. My sense is that, at present, most mainstream Evangelicals are okay with us blood-drinking, semi-pagans.

A few years back, I was at a Catholic funeral, which is essentially a mass for the deceased, and the pastor of the one of the biggest evangelical churches in our area was there because the deceased was his (our) neighbor and friend. The pastor was fine with everything until the taking of communion, (breaking dread, drinking wine) -- he got up with a disturbed look and left the mass early.

I've read several books on the subject and wrote a paper on it in college. -- The anti-Catholic pamphlets and rhetoric by evangelicals are based on a lack of knowledge about the history and traditions of the Catholic church, and, of course, cherry-picking lines of scripture.

I was cornered once by an Evangelical who wanted to inform me that us Catholics just 'made up' a lot of stuff like Limbo and Purgatory. "None of that is in the Bible", he says, and the Catholics just made it all up. The conversation came to an abrupt end when I pointed out that Christmas and Easter weren't specifically mentioned in the Bible and his wedding band was a pagan tradition.

I agree. I learned while living in Utah that "cult" is in the eye of the beholder. I'm sure that the LDS leaders consider him quite an embarrassment. They prefer to keep a low, Disney-sanitized, profile.

My boyfriend in high school was Catholic, which caused a high level of drama with my extremely fundamentalist parents and grandparents. So, I one-upped that by marrying a Mormon.

I consider Mormons Christians. But also a problem is that it wasn't just Christians that are part of the Black Robe Regiment. It was Christians, Jews and Muslims (I'm not sure if the minor religions were there).

which black robe regiment? Revolutionary war, or the modern one that Glenn Beck is on about?
Mormonism didn't exist during the war, started in the early 1800's....
I doubt many Mormon leaders will join Beck for anything, except maybe his excommunication for bearing false witness...
