Because he was specifically in charge of a campaign across the nation to ban gay marriage. And now, instead of fighting it then - before all these constitutions certified people's beliefs that gays are second-class citizens unworthy of the rights of straight people - he's claiming to be a fighter for same-sex marriage.

Well, good on him for the change of heart - but I hope he makes himself live in a state where the damage was done to freedom and equality while he fights to change the damage that he is partially responsible for. He should have to live in Tennessee, where his marriage would go unrecognized and without equal benefits and responsibilities while he tries to get people to change their minds instead of living in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York where he can live like an equal to his neighbors.

Do you have some support of this claim, BDBoop? Not that i disbelieve you but I like to see support for these sort of statements.

If this was his job then he was doing his job, though he might have resigned as a point of honor. The money, connections, and access to power may have been difficult to turn away from though.

Many would have done the same in his position. Money, power, and all its trappings, can hypnotize the best of us.

Wow. Can you fit any more lies in a few sentences?

#1 Gay marriage has nothing to do with civil rights. Civil rights are based on race and gender. Never has your side proved homosexuality is gentic as gender and race are.

#2 You are spitting on the Constutiion trying to reintrepet a decesion based on race and extend it to sexual preference. Thats what ammendments are for. You could care less about the Constitution Hazlnut

#3 Of course it makes sense. You really need to learn what the word "bigot" means

    big·ot (bgt)
    n.
One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.

bigot - definition of bigot by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

    Definition of BIGOT
: a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance

    http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/bigot

If I say the KKK are a bunch of bigots, am I being intolerant??
By defintion you absolutley do. You really need to learn not to argue on your emotions

    Think, text, then speak.
LOL At least I know what the words I use mean. Clearly you do not.

Is that how it went down, do you have a link?? or are you just making **** up again.
LOL!! Hazlnut, do you ever EVER reserach before typing?

    Is he married? yes

    Does he have children? yes

Has he been living the life of a heterosexual in the eyes of his family? yes

Now, exactly what am I making up?

You must have some inside information about this story that the rest of us don't.
Its called basic reasoning. You should try it. Tell me, how could a family not be humiliated by a father and husband abondoning his wife whom he has been married for over a decade, break his marital bounds and persue a homosexual lifestyle? How can the children not be embarassed and hurt by that?

    Explain yourself.
Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

Can I get a link to these assertions?

They'll get over it. My mom's best friend's husband was gay, but since gays are <insert fundie hate speech here>, he got married and had three children. Everybody knew he was gay, but hey! he fought the good fight, wife and kids survived, etc.

    Life goes on.

Tex, look - you're really making yourself look like an ass here.

Mehlman, who has never married, long found his sexuality subject to rumor and innuendo. He was the subject of an outing campaign by gay rights activist Mike Rogers, starting when Mehlman was Bush's campaign manager.
This is directly from this: Bush Campaign Chief and Former RNC Chair Ken Mehlman: I'm Gay - Politics - The Atlantic

The article in which he officially came out. The bolding is my part, of course.

And I'll note: still, none of you have answered my question.

BooYAH!! Thank you so much! I looked and looked. I tried his name with "married", "wife", "ex-wife", "family" - nada.
