John Bush Arrested For Protesting Outside Free Speech Zone At U.T. Austin

 free speech zones, ain't that a violation of your Bill of Rights?
Welll....
That depends on if you beleieve you have the right to express your point of view wherever and whenever you want, w/o any regulation whatsoever.

First, I'm not your 'hun'.

Second, "laws ant UT" assumingly means, "laws at UT." Responding with that assumption, there can't be laws that infringe on one's constitutional rights to free speech and peaceful assembly in a public area.

Third, the curb may be PUBLIC but so was the PUBLIC campus. Both spots are equal in terms of being public.

Fortunately, there are no laws against being an asshole, the reason probably being that the term is a bit relative.

And not that it matters...but just to ease that homophobic mind...I wasnt calling you 'hun' I was saying 'huh'...my finger must have been slightly off target and just like ANT is OBVIOSLY AT, HUN is OBVIOUSLY HUH...but geez...I'm guessing winking at you and sending you a drink at a bar would send you into a tizzy...

This story obviously has worn at the tires on the original wheels AND the recaps. Its one the ing to disagree with things like free speech zones. Kisten...by all means...start a thread, hell start a movement to discuss banning such practices. Its another thing entirely to pretend that you understand the rules and laws of free speech and public institutions. You cant block a street in protest while you are demonstrating your free speech. You cant obstruct citiznes as they walk nor create a public nuisance. You have to file for permits to hold organized assemblies. Thos are just realities, realities made necessary by assholes who feel like they dont HAVE to follow the rules and laws, then claim their own rights are violated when they are arrested for violating those same rules and laws.

The funny or sad thing about "free speech zones" is that a lot of colleges are adopting the idea for on campus speech.

Messed up world we have evolved into.

Colleges had done this long before the 1960s and hence why the protest movement in Berkeley was not so clear-cut.

No.

This crap has been going on for years. UTHSCSA has a little 20x20 square for protesters. Yet still we have people blathering about "BUSH'S FREE SPEECH ZONES". /boggles the mind.

i never said they were set up by Bush, none of my posts mentioned Bush, i think you may be confusing me with Dana, here, let me show you.

You know, I saw a lot of people supporting the arrests of Liberals after George Bush created the concept of free speech zones. Where was the outcry from them then?

Free speech zones were anti free speech then, and they are anti free speech now. Obama, for all his talk, looks a lot like George Bush.

his right to free speech does not trump the property owner's right to determine what activities do or do not occur on its property

which is why he was arrested for trespassing

he possesses the right of free speech
he possesses the right to assemble
but not if the property owner where he plans to present his speech or create an assembly says otherwise

You would have a point if this was private property, it is not, this is a public University funded primarily through taxpayer dollars.

Thank you for assuming I'm a homophobe. I know everyone you disagree with is probably a homophobe especially if they comment on the fact that you seemingly called them, "Hun." Unfortunately, in this case, you couldn't be more off base. I did not notice your gender. I really don't care about your gender. I thought you were being patronizing, which I think is reasonable considering your structure and general attitude regarding my knowledge of the constitution. I actually have gay friends and have supported gay marriage when voting. Maybe it's one of those cases of sub-conscious homophobia though.

It doesn't seem as though he was blocking a street or obstructing citizens while they walked. As to the permit, how do you know that he didn't have one?

we do not agree on much, but this bears repeating.....

geo.

You mean the armed enforcers of the state racketeering scheme? The one where the Job Application reads: "non-power freaks need not apply,"?

Yep...thems the one...

Heres how I know...the police responded and arrested him. Tada. End of freqin story.

If he had a permit he would have produced it as fast as he produced his bull**** media pass...as if he was acting as a member of the press.

Yes, because no one on the police force ever makes an error.

Of course they do. They are all armband wearing goosestepping nazis wading in and cracking skulls...just like those individuals in the video...

OR

YOU could be WRONG...and THEY could be executing faithfully the law of the great state of Texas. Lets see...I can imagine THEIR qualifications...just wondering for comparison YOURS....

You may not LIKE the law...doesnt mean you are right.

Oh and maybe you should look this over. Perhaps they didn't need one?

Doood...I just dont know what to tell you. There are about 3 things that they violated just in the city of Austins rules (including any actions and or signs or wording that might be offensive to onlookers-dont blame me...you posted the link). In the earlier part of their little soire they were using their bullhorn ON the sidewalk with people walking by. They were 'mingling' and obstructing the crowd TRYING to engage them.

What we know for sure is the head of the University of Texas deemed their actions in violation of the rules and laws governming the campus and she called the police. They responded. They TRIED multiple times to get that obsequios little jackwagon to move his self aggrandizing ass to the public sidewalk and he refused so they arrested him. He got the kind of publicity that he CRAVED. Looky there...win win.

I guess he has come a long way from trying to bang Mary Ellen Snackshack in the back of the family station wagon at 16, or being drunk and disorderly ala his arrest in 2005.

It takes a special kind of asshole to want to be a cop, yes.

The last time I checked the first amendment trumps state law. And the last time I checked individual liberty trumps any law.

And you laughably label yourself a libertarian? Just what makes you a libertarian exactly? Are you a fake left wing statist claiming to be libertarian or a fake right wing statist claiming to be a libertarian?

Some cops are douchebags; not all are.

The last time I checked, it's the university's, public or not, property.

No, he recognizes that you can't just trespass on property and be an ass there. I can't stand in the middle of the street and do this.

Blah, I quit.
Public property and 1st ammendment.
No one was being hurt. It was a small group not obstructing traffic.
Asshole or not, he has his rights. Last post I'm making regarding these points. You can take it or leave it (probably the latter, right). Not your fault that you're wrong :)

I call myself a libertarian...and a realist...not an asshole that thinks somehow the constitution gives you carte blanche to not follow the laws.

Oh...I work with LOTS of cops...they are just people. Some have the kind of mentality that you moronically ascribe to ALL. But most? Nah...good men and women. And they have to tolerate dickheads like that moron on a regular basis. And like those that were in this video, most of those cops do it with class.

So...consider the alternative. No cops. No laws. How you liking that? Seriously...think about that for a second. Great concept providing everyone treats people with dignity and respect. Of course...THAT happens ALL THE TIME...right? See...that kind of stupid mindless comment you made is WHY Libertarians have preciseluy ZERO representation in government. Oh...but MY mindset makes Libertarians look bad. Riiiiiight.

Every day you are proving yourself more and more to be the dumbass people have told me you are. No wonder you routinely get bitch slapped in the basement. You are every bit a mindless ideologue. Hell...at least the democrat and republican ideologues have SOMETHING to hang their hat on...you have nothing but empty headed rhetoric.

Im neither right nor wrong. My OPINION on whether or not they should be allowed to say whatever wherever and however is immaterial and thats the point I have made since the beginning. Disagree with the law or the enforcement of the law...fine. But like EVERYWHERE...ignore the law...face the consequence. And thats what happened in this case.

I guess you missed the joke in my last sentence :^/

OK...a little...and sorry for that. I guess I was TRYING to be a little concillatory...if its OPINION about whether it SHOULD be right or wrong...we probably arent that far off.
So...for what its worth...I appreciate the gesture and sorry I missed it!

Left-wing, Marxist universities are intollerant of free speech. UT Austin is notorious for its pro-Marxist, pro-Hamas demonstrations on campus. I beleive a year ago several Christian missionaries were savagely beaten on campus while the police looked on.
