mad Across Texas, 60,000 babies of noncitizens get U.S. birthright

    Son of a BITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As Republican members of Congress press for changes to the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, preventing automatic citizenship for babies born to illegal immigrants, opponents insist the debate is not really about babies.

Instead, they say it is about politics and votes – not fixing the immigration system.
Still, the debate could resonate in Texas, where not only 1.5 million illegal immigrants are estimated to reside but at least 60,000 babies are added to their households annually.
Parkland Memorial Hospital delivers more of those babies than any other hospital in the state. Last year at Parkland, 11,071 babies were born to women who were noncitizens, about 74 percent of total deliveries. Most of these women are believed to be in the country illegally.
State Rep. Rafael Anchía, D-Dallas, accused Republicans of using the births to generate an explosive election issue.

"They're pulling the pin on the immigration grenade," he said. "It's all about the November elections and continuing to use the immigration issue as a wedge to win votes this fall."

Probably because it's being discussed over here. http://www.debatepolitics.com/breaki...ed-review.html

BTW..... I referenced that statistic (among others) in the above thread and got slammed by the libs for it.

Re: Across Texas, 60,000 babies of noncitizens get U.S. birthright

    I'll respond.

I think your State Rep. is correct. You see, it's not as if the illegal immigration or "anchor baby" argument is new. Both have been problems in this country for years. The ONLY reason this has suddenly become such a hot button issue is because of:

    1. questions surrounding the President's birth (all debunked).

    2. questions initially concerning whether or not illegals would be allowed to participate in the gov't health insurance exchange or receive affordable credits for same.

    3. questions surrounding AZ's illegal immigration law.

If none of this issue weren't made to be such hot button topics by the GOP, they wouldn't be such hot botton topics before the November elections. But I digress...

I do think the issue of granting U.S. citizenship to children born to illegal aliens is an issue worth discussing, and I am in favor of changing the 14th Amendment to eliminate the "anchor baby" issue, but anyone who can't see that the citizenship issue is only being used by the GOP as a political mechanism purposely intended to stir up people's anger prior to the November elections is just blind! If this were truly a concern for the GOP, they'd have done something about it years ago especially in the wake of 9/11 when concern for securing our nation's boarders was at its highest! That's what I think is so screwed up about this issue. It should have been dealt with long ago. But now all of a sudden it's become this all so important issue w/the GOP. So, let's call it what it is...

A legitimate concern, but trumped up to stir votes in the GOP's favor. Put another way...

If illegal immigration is such a major bone of contension w/the GOP, why hasn't any Republican politican made his proposal on immigration reform public? Has any one from the GOP put forth an immigration reform bill before the House or the Senate? Or are they waiting to see what the Democrats do first so they can rub their faces in it?

Same on political games, folks. Again, it IS an area of concern that does need to be fixed, but don't be fooled into thinking this is something new. Every President since Reagon has had a chance to deal with the illegal immigration issue, but they've all ignored it...until now. And the reasons why are so obvious Stevie Wonder can even see it!

So because we Texans actually respect our heritage, and the constitution of America your mad at us? Why? Because for me being Texan means that we are people from many lands including Mexico. If that not good enough for you how about the Mexicans who fought, and died with people like Williams Travis, and Jim Bowie at the Alamo, or Golaid?

I mean its not like Texas was ever part of Mexico. / end of major sarcasm

And the GOP is going to slap the Dems with this and unemployment and spending and national debt, and voting for bills that haven’t been read and suing States over enforcing laws that the fed won't and forcing people to buy a product they don't want and..... get the idea? All of the liberal sins are going to be harped on day after day after day after day….

So you are good to go with illegal aliens invading your State and dropping 60,000 new citizens on your welfare rolls each year?

Travis and Bowie would be real proud of you. [/sarcasm]

Of course it's about politics, gotcha politics. Everything politicians debate is politics and getting elected. That's all they know. Common sense is definitely not part of their job classification, only resonate accusations, turmoil, blind side attacks, and gotchas.

Of course the facts don't add up to the accusations:

Deportation numbers up under Obama compared to predecessor | obama, immigration, administration - Now - TheMonitor.com

PolitiFact | U.S. has more border patrol agents on the border with Mexico than ever, but debate goes on

Republicans did dick about immigration because they're corporate owners want the cheapest labor they can get.

The whole 14th-Amendment thing is the same as amending the Constitution to ban gay marriage.

It's talk to rile up the base. Nothing more. Andy you lap it up like delicious, delicious jam.

Never mind that during the years Repubicans had control, median income dropped by $324. Median income rose as did poverty in 2007; 2000s have been extremely weak for living standards of most households

And that during that time, worker productivity rose an average of 2.5% per year. So, the workers were more productive, GDP grew during most of that time. So where did the money go that people worked hard for? Why did the Bush SEC ignore complaints about Madoff at least five times? SEC Didn't Act on Madoff Tips - washingtonpost.com

But, let's talk about the changing the 14th Amendment WHILE we block the jobs creation bill with a fillibuster.
Say What?! Republicans Filibuster Tax-Cutting Jobs Bill | TPMDC

I have no particular love for the Democratic party - especially under its current legislative leadership - but going back to Republicans is (and I've used this metaphor before) is like going back to the abusive husband because the battered wives shelter isn't pretty enough.
