Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and 20-some other House Republicans launched their newly formed Tea Party Caucus with a meeting Wednesday morning in the House Armed Services Committee hearing room—a seemingly appropriate nod to the movement's hopes for political insurrection. The Tea Party Caucus has now turned the anti-government uprising into part of the Washington apparatus itself, becoming the latest litmus test for whether House Republicans have opened their arms to the activists. But it's still unclear what the caucus will actually do for the movement, because members insist that the group will not represent or speak for tea partiers—merely listen to their concerns.
At the press conference that followed the caucus' first session, Bachmann spent more time explaining what the group wasn't, that what it was. "We are not the mouthpiece of the tea party," Bachmann told reporters. "We are not taking the tea party and controlling it from Washington, DC. I am not the head of the tea party. We are also not here to vouch for the tea party, or to vouch for any tea party organizations… we are here to listen and to be a receptacle." When a reporter pointed out that she was, in fact, the titular head of a caucus named after the movement, Bachmann simply added: "This is a listening post...I'm the chairwoman of the listening ear, I'm not speaking on behalf of the tea party."

They haven't quite finalized their roster yet, but supposively there are approximately 20-25 GOP members that want to be part of this. Are they eventually going to separate from the GOP and form their own group?

So could Bachmann be the Tea Party's Presidential candidate? Or is the whole thing a big fake to get Tea Party votes?

So far she has 35 members. One (un-named) democrat has shown interest. Some tea partiers who showed up for the first caucus had voted for Obama but are worried about the spending. I think this caucus is a great idea and hopefully will grow and eventually be bi-partisan. There are all kinds of Caucus's. She just mentioned a few. Potato caucus, seafood caucus, boat caucus, biker caucus....so why not a tea party caucus?
As far as a Tea Party Presidential Candidate, I hope we don't have one. A third party would for sure mean another Dem president in 2012. I think Bachmann loves this country too much to do something like that.

One more thing. I think it's GREAT that they say they are just there to listen to the concerns of the Tea Party. It's about time someone in Washington listened to the American people.

The Third Party idea would involve some risk. You might think I'm all for that because it gives Obama a considerable advantage. Actually I think we need more than two parties and three in this country. We complain when neither really do what we want. What if there were 4-5 real parties? I don't know who's gonna do it though. The two parties have too much power.

There is no "Tea party" as an official party.

People who try to capitalize on a "tea party" ticket are either opportunists or democrat plants.

Yea democratic plants with life long links to the Republican party hahaah.

The Tea Party isn't a party, yet has local chapters with presidents. Who is president of the Burlington County potato party, seafood party, boat party, and biker party?

Hey you are the one trying to distance the right wing from the Tea party by not only saying it does not exist, but that they are either opportunists or democratic plants.. talk about being paranoid.

When did I say that? Make crap up often? :failpail:

we support canidates who want:

to lower taxes

Reduce the size of government

act more accountable to the people.

Dem, republican doesnt matter.

For example. I'd pretty much vote for someone like Corey Booker (the current mayor of Newark) for any higher office that Chris Christie wasn't running for and he's a democrat.

Lower taxes to what amount?

By reducing do you mean agencies, spending, etc. Social Security, military, police, fire dept, agriculture, roads? What does that mean? What services do you want reduced?

Act accountable to which people?

I think these are good slogans that many people agree upon, but nobody agrees on what they actually mean in action?

Personally I'm for a 17% flat tax.... and a balanced budget amendment, But I'll take any.

I think SS should be phased out, those that paid into it are entitled to get what was agreed upon. Military could be trimmed sure and I am a big military guy. Police? Yup. I think some departments have far too many toys but it depends on what they need vs want.... fire depts? again depends, roads? nah, agriculture? not sure what you mean there.

I think the healtcare bill ought to be repealed. funding for finding out people like sex, or other pork barrelled spending. tattoo removal for crack whores, etc... I could go on for days.

Act accountable to which people?

Why to me and you... See Gov Christ Christie for an example, compare him to Corzine.

It's a basic philosophy that the left tries to tear apart and ridicule. fact is though you all failed with the vulgar epitaths, you all failed with the racist label, and this to, will be fail.

Don't forget that the initial Tea Party rallies got instant coverage and advertising by a TV host. You can choose to ignore that if you want.

No more than I can ignore the campaigning for Obama by more than one network..

Of course, putting your companies name in front of it doesn't mean you're laying claim to it or anything crazy like that, lol. Just being fair and balanced.

It's far less dishonest that claiming coverage of said events=claiming it.

bachmann is a loon. i thought the appeal of the tea party was that it was "outside washington"?

I never said coverage = claiming it.

Talk about dishonesty.

Of course you didn't

Lol, the word coverage is nowhere in my post.

You know what I meant. You're just being hard headed now.

Do you go around putting your name on other people's stuff? Just curious if thats a common thing amongst conservatives...

Well, I think we also have to remember that the Tea Party is not a political party at all or wasn't. So why did they deserve national coverage?

This is retarded, your point was they were laying claim to the tea party. I was pointing out you couldn't be more hopelessly wrong, they were talking about covering it.

You're gonna need a bigger bucket.
