Re: Glenn Beck launches online University

Glenn Beck's views on him being a journalist.

    – “I am not a journalist. I’m just a guy who cares. I’m sorry. I’m just a guy who cares an awful lot about my country.” [Fox News, 2/3/2009]

    – “I’m not a journalist. I’m just a dad, man. I’m a guy who just loves my country, and I think you are very much the same with me.” [Fox News, 2/6/2009]

    – “I want you to understand clearly, I am not a journalist — be very clear on that. I am an opinion-maker.” [Fox News, 3/23/2009]

    – “You know, honestly — look, I’m not a journalist. This is the first, you know, tragedy that I have covered on the air.” [Fox News, 4/3/2009]

    – “I come to the table from a conservative or libertarian point of view, and I admit that. I’m a commentator. I’m not a journalist or anything else.” [Fox News, 6/2/2009]

    – “I want you to know, I’m not a journalist. I am a conservative. I am much more of a libertarian.” [Fox News, 8/6/2009]

    – “I think there should have been a follow-up question, George. I’m not a journalist, you are.” [Fox News, 9/21/2009]

    – “I mean, you know — I say on this program all the time, I’m not a journalist.” [Fox News, 9/30/2009]

    – “Even in the news division of FOX — which I want to make very clear and I have from the very beginning — I am not a journalist. In fact, I wear that as a badge of honor.” [Fox News, 10/15/2009]

    – “And I remind you, I am not a journalist. I’m just a dad.” [Fox News, 12/10/2009]

    – “This administration, they respond to FOX News by saying we’re not even a news organization. And opinion shows like mine — understand, I’m not a journalist and I wear it as a badge of honor, I’m an opinion guy.” [Fox News, 4/5/2010]
In fact I believe Mellie many times has said Beck says he isn't a journalist and I know she listens to him and I think watches his show as well.

No.. you posted URLs and imply in so doing that those URLs; OKA: Links... substantiate your assertion. Rest assured that neither the "Links", nor your implied assurance, sustains your assertion.

Understand... the argument here is that there are NO reports which factually establish that Beck has intentionally passed along false information as fact. That there exist a litany of pedantic leftist squealing, braying on about some semantic twaddle agonizing over some meaningless drivel does NOT a Beck deceit make.

    Ain't debate fun?

But never MORE so, than when those engaging in it... ACTUALLY DEBATE; resisting the urge to wallow in the sort of invalid reasoning such as that in which you've chosen to pause.

Now if you want to settle on the assertion that a gaggle of Leftist cranks sit around on the web churning over out of context 'reports' on some inanity... then fine. I'll happily stipulate to that...

Let me know what ya decide.

You're right, soccer. He says he's not a journalist all the time. Who is saying he thinks he is?

Who was it that's taken the position that Beck has claimed to be a Journalist?

    Anyone?

So, without reading them, you have concluded that they could not be accurate... Yep, sounds like a Beck fan's reasoning to me...

I'm fine with preachers discussing how we're all equal and free, but I don't like it when preachers talk about certain policies and how they should be passed, etc. I don't think my preacher should be preaching that the AZ law is good or bad, for example. It's not the job of a preacher to influence his congregation how to vote in political elections. It IS the job of a preacher to influence his congregation what to do about their spiritual life. Then allow the members to determine themselves what policies follow the will of God.

He spoke of how it wasn't just Paul Revere, but also Wentworth Cheswell (a black patriot) also warned the colonies of the British coming. Not sure what they had to do with faith...I kinda tuned out after that. I'm busy making sun tea and trying not to fall asleep.

Overall I give the class a C. I knew most of it so it was kinda boring, but it was interesting the first time I heard it. And David Barton talks way too fast.

Time for tea and maybe a nap. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz....
Why waste valuable learning time with an asshole like Beck when you could have gone to Library of Congress Home ?

It's not the function of the opposition to wade through your links and determine what of the information contained therein, is relevant to the substantiation of your argument...

At least not where the argument rests in a logically valid, intellectually sound foundation.

Which is the only sort of foundation on which I'm interested in standing... so either comport yourself accordingly, or concede that you've no means to sustain your assertion, by failing to do so.

    Either way works for me...

How about we compromise. I'll concede that you are too lazy to read the links documenting the point you requested documentation of.

    Interesting...

So, you're OK with a preacher discussing principle... but you're wholly uncomfortable with the preacher discussing the practical application of principle....

    Why is that? Too judgemental?

Perhaps it had to do with the principle faith that 'all men are created equal...' and the history of Cheswell demonstrates in conclusive terms that there were free black men participating in the founding of America.

Interesting... Ya say ya 'knew most of it'... yet ya aren't comfortable with the certain, self evident truth which provides that sound principle remains sound throughout the human process, which necessarily includes the Pulpit.

How do ya square this glaring inconsistency?
