Walmart employee forced to wear a yellow vest after boss found out he was gay.

When I said "strip mall", I was talking about one of those rows of little shops you find in neighborhoods. I think some people call them "boutique" stores. And I don't mind paying a little more if it keeps me from having to set foot in a Walmart and have to slough through those people while I shop. Every time I have ever been in a Walmart, I got the compulsive need to scrape off the bottom of my shoe when I came out.

That's why I shop online. =)

As to the rest, I understand what you are saying. However, I think those events where larger stores put out smaller competitors happened a little more gradually. Further, those smaller competitors likely ended up becoming suppliers for the larger mom and pop and neighborhood grocers and such. When Walmart moves into a small town, whole blocks of private businesses go under.

I think it depends on the area though. Up where I'm from, there's a big strip of boutiques right in the village, along with some large supermarkets/drug stores/etc. a mile or so outside the town. About 15 miles away is the big shopping area, where there's two malls and a huge long road with a bunch of different "strip mall" strip malls all along it. In one of those strip malls, Walmart opened a store. It hasn't affected any of the other stores in the area as far as I can tell, as it's just one of a few dozen big box stores in the area.

Same Here. Save Money. Live Better. ;-)

Exactly. ;) I get these $5 shirts that I can wear for fricken years. It's also where I go for kitchen and bath stuff. It's just a one stop shop and that's what I love since I fricken hate shopping with a passion.

I do as much shopping online that I possibly can, but some things you just have to get in person.

"I was completely ignored and shunned," he wrote in a complaint to the rights commission. "I had nothing to do all day but wander around the store wearing a yellow vest no one else had to wear, much like Jews had to wear a yellow star of David in Hitler's Germany."

:doh If this guy's using a Nazi Germany analogy, then he immediately loses all credibility with me. He sounds mentally unstable, so for all I know he imagined the whole thing after doing meth with his boyfriend.

If he's telling the truth about vest (which I doubt) then that's wrong and he may have a case. But as far as "my manager shunned me" goes, boo hoo. Find another job dude.

I can see why this is outrageous. Gays are into pink. Not yellow. Duh. :)

This is outrages. Yellow is simply degrading. Chartreuse would be simply fabulous though. In all seriousness I wonder if Wal Mart has issues any kind of statement on this or if him being gay was the only factor.

I wouldn't be to sure i live in the "bible belt" people around hear seriously discriminate ageist male homosexuals

I too live in the so called Bible belt, I have never heard of anyone being publicly discriminated against because they are Homosexual.

I believe that all Homosexuals should be killed.
But I am a Homosexual hating Bigot.

They did. It's in the posted article.

Shopping WalMart once in a while is a right of passage for me and my ilk. Now I'll look for the dudes in the yellow vests, because NOTHING beats shopping with a gay guy. :nails

I still believe there is something bogus about this story. I mean it's not on CNN or anything. Something stinks.

As if invoking Godwin in response to every reference to Germany - regardless of the how/why/extent of the analogy - wasn't credibility killing?

Though one should be careful in invoking references to it, not every reference to Nazi Germany is Godwin worthy, and I am frankly tired of people using it in response to every analogy made. That was not the intention, IMO, rather it was for more constant, and blatant comparison [he is like a Nazi, etc], where inflammatory rehetoric not rooted in proper analogy and logical discussion is occuring.

Well like many have said the question is about the truth of the story. If its true people should be fired and I hope he sews, if not he should be fired.

You really believed this happened? In that heart of the Bible Belt, Las Vegas NV naturally.

From the article:

A Las Vegas man who held a temporary job at Walmart says he was stripped of all his responsibilities and made to wear a yellow vest after telling his manager that he's gay.

Fernando Gallardo has filed a complaint with the Nevada Equal Rights Commission claiming that his boss at a Vegas-area Walmart confronted him about his sexuality, and then began treating him rudely and alienated him from co-workers after learning Gallardo was gay, reports The Advocate.

"I was completely ignored and shunned," he wrote in a complaint to the rights commission. "I had nothing to do all day but wander around the store wearing a yellow vest no one else had to wear, much like Jews had to wear a yellow star of David in Hitler's Germany."

This is the most far fetched, implausible story I've heard in quite some time.

Truth??
On the internet, on our news?
This cannot be, its not the American way!!
Its getting so, that I would not know the truth if it bit me on the arse.....lol...and smilies....

More likely, the guy was hung over from all night clubbing, and the boss caught him jacking off while looking at gay porn on his iPhone.;)

We are infested with Walmarts in this area as well.
They are just another , maybe less corrupted, big , and useless department store....a little of this a little of that....
PepBoys is much better, in the automotive arena, bit WalMart can beat their prices, I think.

Walmart cannot begin to approach the service and selection, and sometimes, the price, from our two local hardware stores(Ace Hardware)...
Walmart is just another "a little of this a little of that" over-sized department store; but they do carry blue jeans..
I'd like to see a service union at WalMart.

Walmart sucks.

So he can make himself a nicer vest?

Walmart sucks.

I can't hate on Walmart, because the greeter at mine is a paraplegic. There are numerous severely handicapped people working in the aisles. The world can be a cruel place to the handicapped, and I'm always happy to see folks like the greeter, who clearly loves talking to people, given a chance at a job that many would say he shouldn't be able to do.

Yeah, the last time I went to Walmart (and the only time in the last 15 years) I was helped by one of their government subsidized wheelchair bound employees. He was the rudest asshole I had run into for a long time.

Well, regardless of his attitude, you were walking out of there, and he never will. I'm not necessarily saying the handicapped should get a pass. Or maybe I am? :thinking I just figure if someone has to pour their own dung out of a bag twice a day, they probably have a right to be a little grumpy. It's no skin off my teeth. Or maybe he was feeling vexed because some rotten kids were just laughing at him? I dunno, MYOD. I can be a class A bitch, but I don't go into Walmart and expect to be treated the way I'm treated in Macy's. I find most Walmart employees to be a little on the grumpy side because they're probably dealing with jerks all day. But then, I bought my first set of dumbells from a walmart dude with no fingers. He couldn't have been nicer.

And now they have their gays clad in yellow vests. :2dancing:

Especially "if your ass looks fat in those pants"

Nothing wrong with a fat ass.

As if I'd buy clothes there!! :crazy3: Go sit in the corner for 5 minutes, Mega. :naughty

Actually since I go through work shirts and pants alot walmart is a savior for me. Good dress shirts and pants for $20 is great instead of going to Sears and pay $10 more.

Well hey I live in a pretty "liberal" area and my gay friends (I only have 3, and they definitely aren't the flamboyant type) get harassed by dickheads every time they leave the one gay bar in town. Discrimination against homosexuals does exist, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss his complaint as PC nonsense. I agree with Chevy though, get a new job pal.

Everybody gets discriminated against. Welcome to the real world.
