RealClearPolitics - Video - MSNBC Trashes Obama's Address: Compared To Carter, "I Don't Sense Executive Command"

Olbermann: "I don't think he aimed low, I don't think he aimed at all. It's startling."

Howard Fineman: Obama should be acting like a "commander-in-chief."

Matthews: Ludicrous that he keeps saying [Secretary of Energy] Chu has a Nobel prize. "I'll barf if he does it one more time."

Wow, this does not bode well when you have mathews and crew on liberal your ass.... :lamo

Seriously though, they are absolutley right...

I almost gagged when obama lied about this testing the limits of human capability. as 13 countries sit on the sidelines because Obama won't lift the jones act, obama out carter's jimmy in this rediculous whiny speech...

He's a one termer.

Re: MSNBC Trashes Obama's Address: Compared To Carter, "I Don't Sense Executive Comma

I hope and pray all the time that he's on his way out. Problem is, we'll need a helluva person to fix the mess he is making worse.

Re: MSNBC Trashes Obama's Address: Compared To Carter, "I Don't Sense Executive Comma

I have to agree. He could have even temporarily suspended the Jones Act in order to bring in more help. I mean, it's good to have pride in your country I suppose... but don't let arrogance hide the truth. If you need help, bloody well ask for it.

This is just PR non-sense, and the whole praying bit in his address was an insult. In disasters, you pray when there are no alternatives. You don't pray while there are people and entire governments shouting in your face with offers of assistance.

Maybe he was praying for earplugs, though he's been pretty deaf thus far on peoples ideas.

He lifted the jones act yesterday. 60 days and millions of barrells later.

That's a good thing... and about time.

Wondering why there's not more discussion on this thread -- I would have thought it was a winner for involvement and discussion. I guess the disagreement to it - is marginal at best or non-existent.

Re: MSNBC Trashes Obama's Address: Compared To Carter, "I Don't Sense Executive Comma

Obama was caught tuning up before the speech.
Now we know why he's No Drama Obama.

What can Libs say? Great speech?
No, they want to bury this deep, like nuclear waste.

Out of curiosity, can you find me an article showing that he has lifted the Jones act as of yesterday? I can't find any.

Someone somewhere on DP posted it.

here's an opinion piece saying he hasnt

FOXNews.com - Major Mistruths From Obama's Energy Address

I hope the fox dude is wrong.
Yep. That's what I thought.

There is no need for Obama to lift the Jones act. That's why there are foreign ship in the gulf right now helping out without any lifts of the Jones act. His administration has said though that if they ever need to lift it in any circumstance they would do it in ten seconds. Anyone that says that he refuses to lift it is wrong, plain and simple. Even the article you linked to lists foreign ships that are being used in the gulf.

I understand attacking his response to the spill, it wasn't perfect and should be criticized, but the people who are complaining about the Jones Act are being willfully ignorant.

Re: MSNBC Trashes Obama's Address: Compared To Carter, "I Don't Sense Executive Comma

yes 53 days later, and if he did not waive the jones act, he is in violation of federal law.

You really shouldn't be talking about ignorance here unless you are simply mouth foaming.

Oh... I don't know.
Seeing as you don't like it... probably more than planned.

Cheers.

Q: Did Obama turn down foreign offers of assistance in cleaning up the Gulf oil spill? Did he refuse to waive Jones Act restrictions on foreign-flag vessels?
A: No to both questions. So far, five offers have been accepted and only one offer has been rejected. Fifteen foreign-flag vessels are working on the cleanup, and none required a waiv

Right here fact check is wrong. or are the dutch lying?

Come now, seems fact check is dithering with the truth.

In reality, the Jones Act has yet to be an issue in the response efforts. The Deepwater Horizon response team reported in a June 15 press release that there are 15 foreign flagged ships currently participating in the oil spill cleanup. None of them needed a waiver because the Jones Act does not apply. The Jones Act is a trade and commerce law that was enacted in 1920 as part of a larger Marine Merchant Act. It requires all trade delivered between U.S. ports to be carried in U.S. flagged vessels constructed in the United States and owned by American citizens. The law states its purpose is to develop a merchant marine for national defense and commerce.
Why was the Jones Act waived as part of the Hurricane Katrina response, and why hasn’t it been waived now? Katrina inflicted massive infrastructure damage, which restricted the availability of key resources. According to the Deepwater Horizon response team: "A Jones Act waiver was granted during Hurricane Katrina due to the significant disruption in the production and transportation of petroleum and/or refined petroleum products in the region during that emergency and the impact this had on national defense." The Deepwater Horizon spill has yet to affect infrastructure or oil and gas availability; the damage is environmental, and foreign vessels are approved for delivering resources and conducting offshore skimming. Although the Jones Act is currently not applicable, the federal government has taken steps to expedite the waiver process should the oil spill response require a Jones Act waiver for trade and commerce.

Exactly what I've been trying to tell you all along. The Jones act hasn't stopped a single ship from helping out.

You've been running around here for the past couple of weeks complaining about the Jones Act without even bothering to notice that it hasn't been an issue at all and still isn't. Along with that the Obama admin has said that it would waive the act in a heartbeat if need be. To act as though they refuse to waive the jones act is silly and would only be put forward by someone ignorant of the facts.
