N.J. Gov. Chris Christie swiftly vetoes 'millionaires tax,' property tax rebate bills

TRENTON — It took about two minutes from the time Senate President Steve Sweeney certified the passage of the millionaires tax package for Gov. Chris Christie to veto the bills at his desk.

"While I have little doubt that the sponsors and supporters of this bill sincerely believe that the state can tax its way out of this financial crisis, I believe that this bill does nothing more than repeat the failed, irresponsible and unsustainable fiscal policies of the past," wrote Christie in his veto statement. "Now is not the time for more of the same. Ultimately, another tax increase will punish the state’s struggling small businesses and set our economy further back from recovery."

Wow, how surprising. Good for him.

“I think this is a defining moment and New Jersey is watching us,” said Assemblyman Paul Moriarty (D-Gloucester). “They will find out today who stands with the 600,000 senior citizens struggling to pay their taxes and keep their homes, and who stands with the 16,000 millionaires simply being asked to pay their fair share in a shared sacrifice this budget season
I think this exemplifies what's wrong with progressive/liberal thinking.

From now on, anything bad that happens to New Jersey I'm going to blame on Gov. Christie.

So where are they going to get the money? Not from the poor! They take some of it. Not from the lower middle class to the upper middle class either.

So where are they going to get the money?
They dont have the balls to kick illegal mexicans out to help their state economy.
Are they going to BORROW the money!?!?

Helps if you go read some of what the man has been doing, serious chops to programs. But don't let facts spoil your panic Noodle.

So far the man is the "real deal". There were supposedly thousands in Trenton today on the steps of the capital protesting the cuts. He's riled up the Progressives wanting to simply spend our way to destruction, and they don't like it very much. The more protest him, the better I like it.

Fortunately, from everything I hear, this will all be over in 2013. Christie is pissing off far too many people, especially people in the educational community, teachers, parents, students. It is unfortunate that Corzine chose to run. Pretty much ANY other Democrat would have defeated Christie.

As far as this particular issue goes, Christie is banking on short term pharmaceutical rebates and gutting other programs. It's mostly gimmicks with little substance. Should he create a "millionaire's tax"? No, that's kind ridiculous for even the Dems to suggest.

Dems use tax and spend. Repubs use bait and switch. All pretty much the same.

Hardly - he was voted in to do exactly what he's doing. The only people he's pissing off are the one's who didn't vote for him in the first place - no big loss there. By 2013, if he keeps doing what he's doing, we'll be diverted from the brink of destruction - which is where the State was headed for 30 years.

Only when the results are the same. I'm expecting the budget to finally be balanced. Not sure why the liberals can't get behind it - Christie's simply doing what Obama said we all have to do --- sacrifice and tighten our belts.
