N.J. Gov. Chris Christie swiftly vetoes 'millionaires tax,' property tax rebate bills

Re: N.J. Gov. Chris Christie swiftly vetoes 'millionaires tax,' property tax rebate b

Oh, I can. I seriously doubt that YOU can. Look how you addressed the issue; you didn't. I do not support the "millionaire's tax". I already said that. Fact is, rich people are not necessarily smarter; they just have more influence because they're rich. That's about the only difference, overall.

Ah... I see you still want to keep up with the partisan hackery. OK. They won't. Fortunately, the greedy are also human, and as social beings, they'll bitch and complain, but take their medicine like they always do. Find loopholes, but generally play along.

Are you done yet, because if not, I can play the partisan hack game with you forever. How about actually addressing what is being said.

Re: N.J. Gov. Chris Christie swiftly vetoes 'millionaires tax,' property tax rebate b

Isn't Christie himself a wealthy man? Possible a millionaire? New Jersey is in tons of debt and he vetoed a bill that would help reduce that debt by having people with the ability to pay go free. What he did was fiscally irresponsible and bad for New Jersey. The man runs on cutting costs and reducing the debt, but he is unwilling to raise taxes or tax those who are most able to pay.

whats better, having a lot of rich people pay some tax or a lot less rich people pay more tax?

how long are you gonna pretend to be a socialist?

Re: N.J. Gov. Chris Christie swiftly vetoes 'millionaires tax,' property tax rebate b

And I don't forget it either, so in 2013, when Christie gets voted out, and all that you support is changed. So it affects you. And then you can deal with it and move on. Individuals only have power as a group.

I've been dealing with that on and off my entire life. Nothing new there if it occurs. Liberals have been ruining this state for 30 + years, if in 2013 the people want to finish the job and vote that way, it's their own funeral. Even Christie is only one guy - he can't fix an entire state worth of stupid by himself.

In a time of economic crisis those who are the most stable should be the ones to pay.

Millionaires have the money, and New Jersey needs it.

To answer your question, I would say they should have a lot of rich people pay some tax, and the richer people should pay even more.

And who says I'm pretending? I have always been an independent and now I realize that liberalism just makes more sense.

I would rather have people we elect rule over us then have corporate business rule.

People have the right to change their belief's as they grow intellectually.

Nah, we had Whitman for a while... thank goodness only for a while. We also had Kean, and though not one of my favorites, he wasn't so bad. Of course Corzine and Byrne were pretty sucky. And Christie is just another version of stupid from the Legislature.

I throw out partisan hack when it applies, And your posting fits the bill as classically as any I've seen. A good way to change that perception is to change the presentation. An example of this is your straw man around "high tax rates". Never said it. It would be a good idea if you took those blinders off.

Re: N.J. Gov. Chris Christie swiftly vetoes 'millionaires tax,' property tax rebate b

Not that I know of... he was the AG so if he has money he inherited it. Corzine the former Governor and former CEO of Goldman Sachs, was and is worth a reported $300 million. I can find nothing specific about Christie's personal wealth and being wealthy.

For the same reasons I've stated to CC -- however NJ is negative in growth meaning, people have been leaving this state. We already have the highest taxes, highest property taxes, and pay the most in overall taxes in the country --- so why soak the people who have the money and force them to also leave the state when keeping them here will keep their money and businesses here and help? It's not like we can force these millionaires to stay in this state. Which is exactly what's been happening:

Both weren't so bad to you because they played liberal ball and did basically what the democrats in the state told them to do. But that's not happening with Christie - which is why those same institutional liberals are whining.

Seem fairly simple.

Re: N.J. Gov. Chris Christie swiftly vetoes 'millionaires tax,' property tax rebate b

Not sure why the liberals can't get behind it - Christie's simply doing what Obama said we all have to do --- sacrifice and tighten our belts.

Because sacrifice and tightening our belts is difficult. That's why Democrats always vote to increase spending and Republicans always vote to reduce taxes-- because doing the opposite doesn't get you re-elected.

Re: N.J. Gov. Chris Christie swiftly vetoes 'millionaires tax,' property tax rebate b

It is after 30 years of debt spending.

Which is not what I am suggesting. Try to attend to what I am saying, not you want to attack. The two are not compatible.

Describe why it's FAR too damaging? And didn't the school system have the opportunity to take pay freezes and reduce the impact on their own and didn't the NJ teachers unions vote against it? He gave them the choice and they chose... now they get cut. It's a valuable lesson in consequences and a "teachable moment".

If this only affected the teachers, I would have no problem with it. Teachers unions, once critical to the protection of teachers' rights have become bloated bureaucracies that often do far more harm then good. What Christie is doing, however, is impacting the children who go to these schools, a far greater number of people than teachers. It's like telling you to tighten your belt, and when you refuse, starving your kids to teach you a lesson. What he's doing is either plain stupid, vengeful, or both.

Taxes have already been raised. Sales tax was increased to 7%, fuel taxes were increased, parkway and turnpike increases have been going up to cover shortfalls, liquor tax, property reassessments and increased property taxes just occurred last year. Here's a little fact to mix with our views:

The Tax Foundation - Tax Research Areas > New Jersey

NJ Taxes 1977 - Present
The Tax Foundation - New Jersey's State and Local Tax Burden, 1977-2008

So let me tell you - you want to pay more taxes, be my guest. Next year make sure to donate more to the State for those schools. As for me, if mom and dad want the kiddies to have all the same perks they can pull out their check books and pay out of pocket. The bottom line CC is, state wide, the voters voted DOWN the increases to the schools in a major way. And the teachers unions had the opportunity to avoid that but chose not to. The folks that you claim are pissed off are NOT in the majority and in my view, do not reflect the conservative view of someone who's also (me) lived all my private citizen life in NJ.

I am aware of the taxes in the state, both sales and other. I do not agree with an extreme position in either situation: just tax or just cut. There needs to be a mix. And with the situation the state is in, when one says "tighten your belt" it may mean paying more, also. It is irresponsible to cut programs that are helpful and needed in the long term, to look "pretty". If Christie was in it for the long haul, he would have some sort of long-term plan. Cutting programs the way he is just makes things look good on paper. There's more going on here than just the bottom line.

Hell, I'm a purist Progressive liberal commie hippy with 19 kids. And I like Christie. Make sure to anecdotally mention me to your liberal friends.

Heck, I'm a greedy, rich, conservative who lives in a mansion and owns a yacht. And I can't stand Christie. Make sure to anecdotally mention me to your conservative friends.

No, both weren't so bad because they were moderates and saw the big picture, unlike Christie who isn't and doesn't... which is probably why you like him.

Seems fairly simple.

complete and utter bovine excrement. people should pay for what they use. The from each according to their ability is crap. growing intellectually means casting off the childish ways of nanny statism.

Your charade is hilarious though, keep it up, you are doing more to make the left look stupid than you did when you were posting as a conservative

You're right and were NJ not in such a dire state of events... you'd continue to be correct. I just think at some point, either the state goes bankrupt or we vote someone in who has to do something difficult. I'm still not cynical enough to think that the majority of citizens in NJ will punish Christie for doing what he stated he would do, and for the reasons he's doing it. The state wide school votes just this past month prove that Christie has the backing of a majority of people in this state. IF he continues to do what he's doing - he'll be rewarded because a door knob knows we cannot raise taxes on people stressed for decades with high taxes, during this economy, and with a 33 billion dollar budget deficit grown over decades.

Most people seem to support him given the state wide voter rejection of school funding last month.

Also very simple.

This was not about supporting Christie. It was about NOT supporting the idiot teachers unions who didn't agree to salary freezes. Even Christie, when supporting the rejection of school funding said this.

Rejecting the teachers unions does not necessarily equate to supporting Christie.
