While most of Washington was focused on Tuesday's election results, the House was busy doing something else: Passing a resolution about beer.

House Resolution 1297, sponsored by Rep. Betsy Markey, supports "the goals and ideals of American Craft Beer Week."

"We've got quite a number of microbreweries and entrepreneurs that are creating jobs, and we wanted to celebrate that this is a craft," Markey told POLITICO.

"I think beer has been a tradition since this country was founded," said Markey. "We wanted to celebrate entrepreneurship — and good beer!"

Yup, under the radar, among all the election results is one of the most important resolutions ever passed by Congress. The making of beer is now officially a craft. Good ole' all American beer.

I'll drink to that...........................

.....................After I get off probation next year. LOL.

Technically whiskey would be the more authentic American alchoholic craft. It was the dominant beverage of the 18th and 19th centuries, among men, women, and children.

Indeed. In fact, it was used as a form of currency amongst the farmers and hunters who lived in the wilderness. That's why when Hamilton got Congress to pass a tax on whiskey, some farmers revolted and Washington had to command troops as President in order to quell it.

Anyways, I prefer rum and whiskey to beer.

You lefties can never get it right...... you suck down beer, not the other way around.

He's making the mistake in thinking Budweiser, Coors, etc, is "beer."

It's not.

American beer sucks.

Sorry, but that is way too general of a statement; there are way too many American beers now that compete and/or are better than any beers in the world---Sam Adams and Yuengling are just two beers (of many out there now) that leave Budweiser in the dust. Catch up with the times, saying American beer sucks is like saying the American 55 MPH max speed limit sucks, because those days are over.

Do not intellectualize beer. Instead, lean your head back and throw it down your throat. It works every time.

American beer sucks.

I would put up a good beer, from a good American microbrewery, against anything Canada, the UK, or Germany can offer. And Shiner Bock? Until you taste that, you have no idea what you are talking about.

One of the best brewers in Canada, found only in Halifax, Nova Scotia. :)

This calls for a beer summit :)

I think American beers have come along way in the past 20 years. New Belgium Brewing Company in Ft Collins Colorado, Blue Moon witbier or Belgian white is brewed by Molsen Coors in Golden Colorado and is one of my favorite American Beers. Sierra Nevada Brewing Company has an excellent Stout that I really like even more than Guinness Stout. They are located in Chico California.

Most of the big American breweries such as Budweiser ang Miller do suck as Kandahar suggest. But some of micro breweries are producing exceptional beer.

And the House was right to pass a resolution that makes the art of brewing beer a craft.
