It is also hard to believe that Daniel Pipes is a descent's of Richard Pipes a well known Historian. The poor girl is already getting targeted for being a Muslim who won a freaking beauty pageant. I also pissed off at how Mrs. California was handled as well, since she was only stating her opinion on the matter.

I don't know what this says about our country when beauty pageant winners are being debated in the political arena. Who cares about her ethnic or racial background? Our country has evolved past discriminating. This Muslim woman is very pretty and she won the pageant fairly. Since this topic made me think of Ms. California and I seen her mentioned in the OP as well, I will say this. Political questions have no place in beauty pageants. They are encouraging moderate Islam.. those muslims willing to assimilate and be part of the West.
They do the SAME with many other awards such as the Nobel Prize; use it as a political tool to highlight a worthy cause or trend.

I don't know ... I see it as a good thing. I want more Muslim women to win beauty pagents because then I'll know that class, religion and faith are being tempered and assimilated into the American culture. We can still be the melting pot and tolerate other races, cultures and country's people.

Not sure, but I believe I have read that Muslim women have rules against shaving body hair. (and there tends to be an abundance of said hair in that part of the world). We may all want to get together and think this through before we commit to anything we later regret.

That is NOT a thing with Islam ... in fact it's the direct opposite. This I know first hand from a former Sunni Muslim girlfriend from Turkey. She even tried convincing me of shaving err... area that should not be near sharp object... and let's just leave it at that. What you state may be cultural or regional in areas of the Middle East.
