May 14, 2010 AP IMPACT: US drug war has met none of its goals

Kerlikowske, who coordinates all federal anti-drug policies, says it will take time for the spending to match the rhetoric.

“Nothing happens overnight,” he said. “We’ve never worked the drug problem holistically. We’ll arrest the drug dealer, but we leave the addiction.”
Obama and his clowns can admit what has been realized for years about the Drug War but until they actually do something (like letting states decide drug policy) they're just blowing smoke.

Yes, clearly the failing War on Drugs is Obama's fault.

That's not what he said at all. Why don't you try reading before you knee-jerk to defending Obama from a charge that wasn't even leveled against him?

The funny thing is that if he was to address this issue even in the slightest all the conservative media pundits would be on TV the next day telling people that he's tackling too many issues at once and that he doesn't care about the economy cause he can walk and chew gum at the same time, lol.

I think it has more to do with political capital than it does with whether he can multitask.

Look at how the Healthcare scam nearly crushed his ability to continue being effective at all.

It was a joke, but I see how you came to this conclusion. Apologies.

I can see that now...my bad. Sarcastic humor sometimes doesn't translate well across the interwebz.

The war on drugs was patently designed to fail...similarly to the war on guns.

When you find a way to manipulate demand curves, then you can win. Otherwise, it's just PR rhetoric and political hackery.

A government program that has met none of its goals??

Next up at 5:00 - a new study shows that the incidence of teen pregnancy plummets after age 19.

Wars on concepts are never going to succeed: War on Drugs, War on Proverty, War on Guns, War on Terror.... silly. How do you win a war on a concept? Who is the enemy? Where is he hiding? Most importantly, How do you know if you have won? Escalating these things to "WAR" status tends to do nothing more than obfuscate the real issues, which in turn dilutes the effectiveness of the "war".

It would be much better if had less hyperbole and more practicality in our politics.
