CNN) -- One by one, the office Casanova dated several of his female co-workers at a small technology firm in California. His dating escapades turned public -- and problematic -- when he chronicled his opinions of the women on Facebook.

He called one co-worker "a snore" before the updates spiraled into explicit comments.

When his manager learned about the Facebook updates, chaos ensued. One woman who was the subject of his offensive comments believed she had been sexually harassed at work.

This scenario can be a manager's nightmare, and it's happening more frequently with the growing prevalence of social networking, says Shanti Atkins, president of ELT Inc., an ethics and compliance training company with 2,000 clients nationwide.Cleaning up the social media disaster at the technology firm (she declined to give its name) is just one of the dozens of cases Atkins has taken in the past six months

I can see why this would be a massive problem, I hate facebook, but eventually used it cause these days it's the only way to keep up with others in my case all around the world.

But some people are pretty dumb to post information like this guy did.

Totally with you on this. My company's human resources team has a social networking policy... it basically says feel free to use sites like these, but continue to respect your confidentiality agreements and exercise common sense! Don't post anything you wouldn't want to see on the front page of the newspaper. I know it's called common sense, but not enough people seem to have it.

Besides... maybe it's just me, but I don't think people on my Facebook list want to see me talk about work. It would be boring for them.

The problem isn't common sense. The problem is that most of these people are so degenerate that they wouldn't mind seeing their sexual exploits on the front page of the newspaper.
 
The bigger question is if these woman are mad because what was said or if what was said actually true
 
My company just started to enforce a policy similar to this. My response to the complaints is that if you dont like the policy, then go find another job.
