While Oil Slick Spread, Interior Department Chief of Staff Rafted with Wife on "Work-

Re: While Oil Slick Spread, Interior Department Chief of Staff Rafted with Wife on "W

Do we actually think that this really had any impact of the government's response to the incident? I would wager that it did not.

Um ya he was head of the organization responsible for dealing with major oil spills. At least as head of FEMA Brownie didn't skip off on a vacation.

Actually, as I already mentioned, he was the head HR guy for that organization. As such, he has no operational authority or responsibility, at least not where this sort of thing is concerned.

The head of the Department of the Interior is Ken Salazaar, who did not (AFAIK) go on vacation.

HR guys don't go on trips to discuss policy with the Director of another federal agency. If he has no authority, why was he airlifted out by helicopter?

Two other things:

1. He is also assistant secretary at U.S. Fish and Wildlife.

2. His fellow employees at Interior said he shouldn't have gone.

Politics can't solve real problems, only play word games. If they really want to solve the oil problem, bring in competent Petro engineers, and then make provisions for realistic rapid response when the next leak happens.
