No I'm not. It was very clear. Don't lie about it. That's pathetic.
Being totally pwned is hard on some people.

YOu cat avatar people stick together. ANYHOW..... no you are wrong,
I pointed out that Hello Kitty was speculating. Where I have seen or heard the majority of the cop force flat-out LIE about their overtime! It was one of the things that turned me off to the lot of them. Its dishonerable and something I did NOT expect from those people. Opened my eyes
So I base my information on fact.
Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
It's still speculation. Look it up.
Meh. Ok.... lets split the difference then. Im making a decision based on past experiences and hello kitty is totally guessing. Both not concrete but while my dough has risen and in the oven, hers is still rising.

But we don't use the police to get them.
I'm asking a question, that's all.
So do they serve a purpose, or not?
Okay, hence my question - why have them?
Hey now.
It's an EPIC Hello Kitty, as it's tottin' an AK-47.
Ak-47's make everything epic.
I thought you knew that.

I HAVE to assume that you absolutely KNOW how stupid that sounds and were making an ironical, self depreciating joke...right?
I once knew this cop so I made a decision about somebody totally not related...but SHE is totally guessing.
Thats some FU NNY stuff right there, I tell you what...:rofl
How else do you issue traffic fines without police?
I did say they were decent arbitrators but as you know they are a reactionary force.
They don't usually prevent anything, that is why your safety is your job
That is the purpose they serve.
Agree its pretty cool
Please go read the length of time.... just read the thread again please. I tire of repeating what i have already written. You are beginning to dehydrate me
They prevent plenty. People who might commit a crime decide not to because they know the cops will try to catch them afterward, even if they don't prevent the crime. And criminals know that citizens can't prevent everything either, even if they do take responsibility for it.
Duh.

There are a number of different ways that crime prevention works. Here's one of them. We knew that alot of gang members in our community were carrying guns. Our officers did pro-active traffic stops of known gang members and asked for permission to search their cars. They almost always agreed, and we recovered, over the course of a year, hundreds of handguns.
Every handgun we recovered from a known gang member represents how many crimes prevented? And not just shootings...robberies, carjackings, etc.
Another crime prevention strategy that our officers created was to do interviews with victims of gang-related shootings and their families/friends within an hour of the crime. The officers told them: "If you retaliate, we will come and arrest you. Let us handle the crime." This dropped our drive-by shootings in our community by 50%.
You literally have no idea what officers are doing in your community while you're tucked safe in your bed at night to prevent crime.
The cops I worked with were constantly thinking of better ways to do their jobs.
What percentage of traffic fines - after deducting the cost of paying the police $12 an hour to issue them - supports your town's budget?

Nah, buy a handgun and you're completely safe forever.
I don't suppose they could reduce OT hours by hiring a few more cops????
Hiring new officers can actually be more expensive than paying overtime when you consider the cost of equipment, training, fringe, benefits, etc. It's a fine line. On the surface, you'd think that you could just hire another officer for $100k.
But, in reality, it would probably be more.
I turn 64 in a few weeks....wasn't there a Beatles song about age 64?Hiring new officers can actually be more expensive than paying overtime when you consider the cost of equipment, training, fringe, benefits, etc. It's a fine line. On the surface, you'd think that you could just hire another officer for $100k.
But, in reality, it would probably be more. You're talking about thousands in training, plus equipment (uniforms, vest, badge, gun, baton, etc.), plus fringe & FICA & benefits & vcacation & state retirement fund. It's a lot to hire officers. And, what if you are using grant dollars, and can't afford to keep that person on board when the grant runs out? that's why departments often pay out grant funds in overtime versus hiring.
That's one of the things that made the COPS program under Clinton different, he required departments to hire new officers and put them on the streets.
Damn...I'm old.
Depends on the cost of the ticket.
Of course a citizen can't but your acting as if police are the first line of personal defense, which they are not.
Maybe I over generalized it a bit but then at the same time you have locks on your car, home and you put money in a bank for a reason.
You do things every day to prevent or make it harder for people to do stuff to you.
No it doesn't. It's a total number. How much does the total revenue from tickets, minus paying cops to write them, does your town take in, and what percentage is that of the total budget?
No, I leave all my posessions out in my front yard and wait for the cops to come if anyone walks off with them.
Of course the cops can't protect everyone and everything all the time. But that's a far cry from saying they are useless in fighting crime - which is what YOU said.
Can't find the budgetary listings.
It doesn't really matter all that much though because I said I over generalized.
I didn't say they were useless, I said they usually can't prevent crime.
There is a difference.
You're putting words in my mouth.
I even admitted to over generalizing and you seem to still want to press me.
