We are a Christian Nation....

We're not talking about official religions. What religion was this country first built on?

We are talking about terminology. What religion this country was first built on has already been agreed upon, but it is irrelevant to the definition of "Christian Nation".

For the sake of argument, if we were, in fact, a "christian nation" we would be obligated to uphold the judeo/christian law, "You shall have no other god's before me?" That's one of the Big 10. Would that not eliminate the very concept of religious freedom?
For more insight regarding the concept of being religious in nature vs. not a religion, please see post #266. The intent of our forefathers was to be inclusive and accepting of all religious orders and seperate in matters concerning state.

But, in the sense that most American citizens do follow various religious faiths based on the diety of Christ, by majority it would be feasible to look upon America as a "christian nation." It's semantics.

Fact remains, that the US is, by design, a secular nation belonging to no particular faith of diety. The word God, is simply "God" because that is how His name is spoken in English. We are all free to intrepret and ponder our spirituality in any way we choose here in America as long as it is within the constraints of common law.

I know a lot of people want to write in stone what America's "official" language is and what America's "official" religion is and what America's "official" news channel is, etc., but it's wayyyyy too late to do that.

Moderator's Warning:
This thread is NOT about the crusades or Islam. Stay on topic... I am getting a little annoyed at having to keep dropping warnings.

If I may, dear Cap-E-Taan, :2wave:

If Islam has any place at all on this thread, it would be to point out that the Muslim's believe, as I understand it, that any land that is conquered, or inhabited my people of the Muslim faith, must be forever claimed in the name of Allah/Islamic. That is much akin to those who profess that America must be claimed in the name of Christianity. Or, if you will, "a christian nation."

Sometimes ya wonder how either ever learned to ride a camel. :rofl

You're delusional! Where is the West and where is the Middle east on prosperity?

Of course they have most of the oil....and the crusaders walk in, establish "democracy" and govern the oil ourselves. It's a beautiful thing...
Good god your idea of history is pathetic. The crusades had little to do with establishing democracy the crusades were carried out by Monarchies across Europe. Im starting to think youre a parody.

saying that the US is a christian nation is like saying Green Bay is a Packer town. It's true, on one hand. But, on the other, Green Bay is much more than a football team.

Wait a second i thought that was the only thing green bay had going for it

Well at least CA can be honest about it. This is exactly what I've been trying to say the whole time. And I'm pretty sure I've been clear on it. CA should be your all's spokesman when it comes Christianity because I think your all's dislike for Christianity itself clouds the logistic side of the brain.

Silly me I thought you were original and had novel thoughts I guess I was wrong.

I'm j/k you're not a moron. Ya might be a pogue but not a moron.

You know what the bible says about it's spokesmen don't you? It call's them fools. Or something like that.

I guess I qualify! :3oops:

One more thing. A cloudy brain makes for a faithful follower. Logic and religion are, more often than not, in direct conflict.

Another reason our fore fathers decided to seperate religion from matters of state where logic and the dictates of reason better prevail.

If you lefties don't know what God he is talking about when a President says God Bless America you are in total denial.............

There are many on the right that seem to think the current President is talking about Allah.

As has been explained to you belief in a God or deity isnt exclusively christian. We dont say Christ bless America. Also since you ignored it. The ten commandments arent displayed in the lobby of the supreme court.

Yeah...because only "Christians" believe in GOD.

The word "God" now belongs only to Christians...just like you want the word "Marriage" to belong only to heterosexuals. How soon until you want the word "Marriage to belong only to white heterosexual "Christians"?:doh

Contrary to what many of our left wing friends believe:

78% Think Jesus Christ Rose from the Dead

78% Think Jesus Christ Rose from the Dead - Rasmussen Reports

Today's the day Christians believe Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead, and 78% of Americans share that belief.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 10% don't believe Christ rose from the dead, and another 11% are not sure.

Um, okay. So what?

Which is funny, since Allah is just Arabic for "God" - the same one Christians and Jews worship.

If you think only Christians believe in God, might I suggest a little more Old Testament time and maybe a quick brush-up on Ephesians 2. Hint: Christians have been grafted on the vine and invited into the same promise that God has for the Jews.

Culturally the US is a Christian country, because most people are Christian in one way or another. However there is a difference between being a Christian nation and being a Christian state.

While the American nation is clearly Christian the American state is patently secular. You had some very clever people writing your constitution who knew that the only way to keep together all the warring fractions of Christianity was to make sure that no religion could ever seize control of the state. Thus you have the separation clause and you should be happy about it.

The first zombie.

hehe, but the people are overwhelmingly Christian; the government is secular.
