We are a Christian Nation....

Slavery was already around nearly two centuries before the founding fathers.

Prostitution had been around for five millenia.

:rofl
Someone came back to life and now rules as a supreme being over us and judges us by what we do and then sends us to someplace in reprisal.

It's funny to read - somewhat disturbing to realize that people actually believe it.

It makes every bit of sense to me. And I don't even believe in it.

Frankly, this kind of rhetoric gets on my nerves every bit as much as those who shout about godless atheists going to hell for not loving Jesus. The difference is that I hear much much more from the former, and haven't really encountered much of the latter.

Goddamn dude! If the founding fathers woulda been of the Jedi religion then our foundation woulda been built on Jedi. It doesn't mean you have to worship Jedi, you could worship Buddha if you wanted.

That's like trying to argue that since the "Founding fathers" were white Europeans, that we therefore are a white/anglo country. :doh:doh:doh

Dude that was a ridiculous analogy.

You know what amazes me? That anybody cares what the founders thought. Just because they were pioneers doesn't mean we ought to follow them forever.

1. They didn't get slavery abolished even though most wanted to.

What's the second Founders idea that you disagree with?

They needed to get the Constitution ratified by the South. That wouldn't have happened if they'd abolished slavery right off the bat.

Which southern states are you talking about?

Women's suffrage.

Women's suffrage.

Agreed.

Anything besides civil rights and social issues? Do you agree with the foundation of our government (small central government, state sovereignty, no income tax, etc.)?

I asked you first. ;)

Huh? You're the one who said that they could've abolished slavery. I said they couldn't have because we wouldn't have ratified the Constitution. So....how do you suppose they could've done it without causing a civil war?

Alright genius, Then what religion was this country built on?

This country wasn't BUILT on any religion. It was built by religious people who were intelligent and wise enough to build it on a foundation of religious neutrality. That is why you need to read the Constitution.

It worked on a micro level. The macro level that our country has grown into would make it ineffective.

This is true. Although, many states (as I said before) had state religions.

Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina threatened to leave the Convention if slave trade was banned.

They only needed 9 of the 13. ;)
