In terms of what the populace subscribes to, yes it does. It just doesn't make it a theocracy.

Well, I personally don't subscribe to the belief that because a majority of the people in this country are Christian it is therefore a Christian nation. I also still find it rather hilarious that some Christians are bragging about this fact, which really isn't considered very Christ-like behavior. What happened to being humble?

We are a nation that most of the inhabitants follow christianity, that's for sure. However, as a nation, we do not, and have never, endorsed any specific religion or denomination as the "official" national belief.

    Oh, and a Fat Nation.

It's sad the way Christians go out of their way to try to make themselves seem important no matter the facts. It's some sort of inferiority complex, I assume.

Nation is an abstract notion regarding the commonalities the majority of the population shares. It was and is a christian nation.

If the demographics would dramatically change, as they can and perhaps will in the coming decades, I would say that this nation was for a great part of its existence, a christian nation, but now is *insert Islamic, Agnostic, Athiest, or whichever*.

Without really recalling the overweight and obesity statistics, I basically have no problem with anything in this post, with exception to your intention with the white nation portion. We are a white majority, who is sensitive and generally compassionate towards ethnic and racial minorities, some of whom will soon become majorities (I have absolutely no fear of this unlike those such as Pat Buchanon). On the surface it would be easy to generalize and say we are a white nation, but the connotation is much too strong to simply say it. Christians can sometimes have feel like they are on the defensive, and frequently can exaggerate the animosity towards them. Which is why I do not agree their the sentiment that Christianity in America is persecuted. It makes absolutely no sense to me.

We are a Constitutional Republic, which means the majority is limited in what they can impose upon the populace. The BofR gives INDIVIDUALS rights protected from the tyranny of the majority.

BTW, can nations really be Christian or any other religion? Is God limited by man-made borders? Can a majority vote or dictator fiat really make citizens think or believe a certain way?

    Oh for the love.

Do you really need actual links to show that Americans are overwhelmingly white and overweight? I mean, don't you read?

... nor do I subscribe to the belief that a majority of Americans are Christian..... they might check that box ahead of any of the others, but that does not make it so.
