Army 'showdown' at eligibility corral. Lt. Col. asks for birth cert.

By repeating the same garbage that's been debunked several times over.

Birth certificate/long-form argument...debunked.

Born in Kenya, Indonisia...debunked.

Mother gave birth at age 14...debunked.

Hawaii wasn't a state when Obama was born...debunked. 1959 versus 1961...2 year difference.

Mother recorded child's birth late...debunked.

Obama's a closet Muslin...Ummmm...I go with freedom of religion on this one even if it were true. Except in today's anti-radical Muslin climate, I really don't see what barring his religion would have on his ability to be president....that is if you support the Constitution as you claim. He says he is a Christian. For what reason should I not believe him? And again, does it really matter?

Natural Born Citizen...debunked by numerous present-day court cases that support a child born in this country to one U.S. citizen parent and a foreign born parent.

Dual-citizenship renders Obama ineligible to be President...debunked. As long as he swore alligence to this country, he's eligible. And he did this back when he became a Illinois/U.S. Senator back in the mid-late '90s. (Of course, birthers ignore the fact that Pres. Obama's dual-citizenship status expired long ago...back in or around 1984.)

None of the birther arguments hold up!

Don't forget birth certificate forged, or fake one issued by cronies in Hawaii...

I really don't think anyone has properly debunked the time machine theory as of yet...

Here's the phoney one.

There were multiple kenyan phony ones submitted by Orly Taitz. There's the other kenyan one copied off an australian birth certificate and then there's the canadian one signed by Dudley Do Right

rivrrat, is that really your.... tattoo?

Surprising. Have you asked your family member what he/she thinks of using the term? Doesn't it bother you?

She's currently 5 so no I haven't.

In regards to her parents, yeah. My personal view, I'm not big on the whole victimization thing. I generally won't call someone a "retard" however I'm also not going to ignore that "retarded" as an adjective for "mentally slow" or essentially stupid doesn't exist.

My best explanation for this is actually a recent south park episode concerning the word "faggot", and that the meanings and use of a word change over time despite their roots. When someone says something is being retarded they're tending not to mean "You're acting like a mentally handicapped person" or "you're acting like someone with downs syndrome" it generally mens "you're acting stupid". I'm one of those "intent" type of people when it comes to words.

Thanks. I'm kind of giving up on it myself, but I think the point needs to be made now and then.

NP :) You made the request politely which I can respect, and I believe in a way that I imagine if a discussion was being had about the word itself and its use you wouldn't fly off the handle if people dare to type it out.

Did you ask them what they thought? Do you ever use the term in front of them?

Me too. I know what you mean. But I think you're completely mistaken if you think people aren't referring directly to the mentally retarded when they use the word. What else could it possibly be? Ask them what it means, and 99% will probably say "you know, retarded, like a retarded person." That's exactly what it means.

Now, I know not everyone is like that. Some are just conditioned to say it and have never once thought about it. And there are certainly words I use that were once official medical labels, such as "idiot." So you're right some of the time.

Most important - and this is the kicker for me - ask someone with mental retardation if it hurts when they hear people say it. They will almost always say yes.

Now, I'm with you on the South Park thing - I want a world where people can say "retarded" and it's okay, because underneath it all there is respect for retarded people that goes without saying. I think being able to joke and laugh about yourself and others is the best form of inclusion. But we're not there yet.

Yeah, I've learned how to do it right. :) And I don't even care as much any more. It's just too common. I think I'm just giving up and going with the movement to abandon the label "mentally retarded" for people who actually qualify. It feels like giving in, but it's a hopeless cause. Of course, people will just start using the new term ("intellectual disability") as an insult, but that's a fight for another day.

Thanks for listening and taking it seriously instead of flying off the handle in response too.

And Lakin has officially been charged. The court martial is beginning.

What a dumb cluck. Are those birthers going to replace his income, retirement, offer him a job after his stint at Camp Levin-Pound-A-Rock.

Just another example proving that all officers are not the sharpest tool in the shed.

And the really stupid part of this is that even if Obama's was born outside the U.S. he would still be eligible to be president. This wasted act is akin to a soldier diving on a grenade... when nobody is around. What a waste.

Say what you want about him but you have to admit the guy has some gonads....

I'm wondering if they're misplaced though. You do know even if president Obama wasn't eligible Larkin still had no case and would be court martialed.

court martial time, and rightly so.

… And, rightly so.

Excerpted from “Court Martial Charges Brought Against Birther Army Doc” By Justin Elliott, TPMMuckraker, April 23, 2010, 9:21AM
Formal court martial charges have been brought against Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin, the Army doctor who believes President Obama may not be a natural born citizen, for failing to follow orders, the military said today.

Lakin was charged Thursday "with one specification of a violation of Article 87, Missing Movement and four specifications of a violation of Article 92 (three specifications of Failure to Obey a Lawful Order, and one Specification of Dereliction of Duty)," said Chuck Dasey, spokesman at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, where Lakin is assigned. …

No, it's not court martial time. A soldier has the right to ask that his commander who is ordering him to take another person's life is his ligitimate commander in chief. Redressing grievances to a commading officer is a soldier's right. It's in the UCMJ.

What amazes me is how the folks calling for this officer's court martial are the same ones that supported Eric Wattada when he was derelict in his duty.

Yes, every soldier should be able to ask and recieve a copy the birth certificate of everyone in his chain of command any time he feels like it. As matter of fact every member of the armed service should refuse to do his or her job until they can produce a "long form " of birth certificate................

This wasn't the military I was in.

The Army that I was in and Article 138 of the UCMJ, that governed my conduct said, "A soldier has the right to complain and request correction of a grievance against his commander." Additional information can also be found in FM 27-1 (Chapter 10), if you need clarity.

Perhaps we were in two different armies, afterall.

That could be but its amazing that a LT Col 0-5 would give up his career for a principle.......
