The GOP has suggested a new alternative to HCR, bartering with chickens for medical services.

Well, one silly person (Sue Lowden). Not the entire GOP.

AUSTAN GOOLSBEE: I think the world vests too much power, certainly in the president, probably in Washington in general for its influence on the economy, because most all of the economy has nothing to do with the government.

Just thought we needed her name. She is somewhat challenged.

While Lowden was previously in the lead in her election bid, I would be willing to bet a few chickens this proposal of hers is not going to help her campaign!

Why have private insurance companies used predator practices so heavily that it is fast coming to a point that only the middle rich can buy their product? The upper rich don't need it they have the money to pay out of pocket.
The Federal Govt. creates crisises not solves them. It is you that believes what you are told by the Federal Govt. The Federal Govt. makes it worse, not better. There isn't a Fedearl Program out there that doesn't cost more than it was supposed to cost, do what it was supposed to do, solved a problem, and then disappeared.

Trillions have been spent on the Great Society, has that solved any of the problems it was supposed to address?

You and others seem to have a very poor understanding of personal responsibility. No govt, state, local, or Federal can solve personal responsibility issues but it the local and state govts. closer to the situation that is better served to help. Were it not for states and local govts, the problems would be much worse than they are today.

The healthcare problem isn't nearly as big as you think and have been told. Do you have health insurance? Predatory pricings? Do you even know what predatory means? What are the true costs of healthcare? No one has defined those costs and how much the govt. adds to the cost so before blaming insurance companies at least you ought to have some facts to back up your contention.

We currently have a 3.8 TRILLION Dollar govt. Do you know how much a trillion is? We have a 13 trillion dollar debt and are adding to it every day. Most of that debt is due to social engineering by the govt. yet because you don't feel it, it doesn't concern you. It should because it will concern you in the future.

Fact: 47 million people in this wealthy and powerful country—including 8.7 million children—have no health coverage at all.

Fact: More than one-third of people who have insurance worry about losing it.

Fact: Insurance and drug companies are making stunning profits. Health insurance CEOs averaged $8.7 million in 2006 compensation and pharmaceutical company CEOs pulled down an average of $4.4 million.

AFLCIO? LOL, come one, break down the numbers, how many can afford insurance but CHOOSE not to purchase it. Is choice only an issue when it comes to abortion? How many are rich and CHOOSE not to purchase it? How many are illegals that really aren't eligible for it. Stop buying the rhetoric and get U.S. Census data. The true number is about 10% and the fact remains health insurance is a personal responsibility, not a federal taxpayer responsibility.
