Liberal caucus leader will introduce new public option bill - The Hill's Blog Briefing Room

A leader of the House liberals' caucus said Monday she'll introduce new legislation to revive the public option.

Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Calif.), the co-chairwoman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, said she plans to unveil legislation to add the government-run option to the national healthcare exchange established by legislation President Barack Obama is to sign tomorrow.

"We will introduce a robust public option bill on the very day the president signs the reconciliation bill into law," Woolsey said Monday during an interview on MSNBC.

"Every single member who I've mentioned to reintroducing the robust public option has said, 'Sign me on,'" she said.

The California congresswoman's effort could be compared in a way to Republican efforts emerging Monday. A number of House and Senate GOP lawmakers have gotten behind bills to repeal the bill, which was passed Sunday night.

It returns from the dead.

Sweet, Now that democrats know they can win without republicans maybe we can get the heath care reform bill we wanted the first time.

This is all talk right now, I doubt this will actually happen though. But personally I hope it does because I'm more in favor of the Robust Public Option and don't really support most of the things in the bill that the President signed on today.

Eh, I'll get interested when something makes it out of committee. Properly set up, a public option could provide some much needed competition to the insurance market. Taking out a profit motive and multi-million dollar executive pay will force private companies to get pretty efficient.

.... of course, "efficient" just might mean denying more claims... :(

Because government's job is to give us what we want, regardless of cost or right.

Unfortunately, now that they got past this major hurdle, socialized medicine is just a matter of time.

You mean total government takeover of all hospitals, etc. That is what you want, Bolsheveik!

Yep, and next is the people seizing the means of production. Just like right after Social Security was passed. Errr. Right after Food Stamps were created. Errr. Right after Public Schools were offered. Errr, right after we created roads with tax money. Errr. Well, I guess socialized services really aren't the end of the world. Never mind.

Nah. Socialized medicine works decently in the UK but I like Canada's method of keeping medical professionals private better.

The point is, we do not need another welfare program. And this is exactly what it is.

Oh, that was your point? Funny, because that's not even in the same universe as what you actually wrote.

OK, I had a brain fart.

Anyhoo, I oppose any and all government social welfare programs that do nothing but breed more people dependent on the government tit.

Living off Gov Welfare ain't the good life Bassman. I Don't think anyone strives for that life.

It won't get by the Senate. Go ahead and cheer for the passage of Obamacare, but meanwhile, keep the lyrics to this song in your head....

You can't always get what you want.

Except the lazy good-for-nothings that voted this clown in.

Social safety nets helped out my family when we needed it and without them I wouldn't be where I am today. I'm a hardworking, taxpaying American who has repaid his debt to society many times over in the taxes I've paid so far.

Net gain.

My anecdote is better than your... vague ideas about people different than yourself whose lives you actually have very little idea about.

I'm not a lazy good for nothing Bassman. But if I were American I would have voted for Barack Obama anyday.

And another thing. Can I please invite you to Canada? I will pay for you to come here, and see, that even with Government Run Healthcare and Regulation on wonderful things such as, I don't know, sewage. That we have a fuctioning capitalist system, and allowed me to pay crap loads of money to go to acting school, and has a capitalist entertainment industry in place, of which I am a part of officially today.

Nice job generalizing all his supporters like that as if they don't want to get jobs and love living off welfare.
Oh worry not. Onumbnuts is making sure businesses don't thrive so ther ewill be far more people on the government tit.

Oh, I've seen intergenerational welfare firsthand and it sickens me that families have had multiple generations on the government tit. Why should they work when Uncle Obama just gives them a check??

You mean Canuckistan where you're forced to fork over more than half of your paycheck for those worthless welfare programs?? And how about the GST and PST adding another 15%?? Nah! I'll keep more of my hard-earned and do things MYSELF, thank you!! BTW, I've been to Canuckistan before.

So now you want to discuss things other than health care. Try other threads.
