Your definition of "right" differs GREATLY from mine...

Government DOES NOT "issue" rights.. those come God, the Universal Oneness, or simply from being born.. "Natural Law" in the Federalist Papers.

You make a grievous error when you start to believe government issues "Rights". they simply make laws.... Government issuing Rights is a deep seated error of liberal logic, which unfortunately most of us were taught in government-run schools.

Wow okay so it is some kind of ephemeral metaphysical thing wether or not Texas has the right to secede from the USA instead of what agreed upon and written.

Many different people signed the Constitution in the 18th century with many different opinions amongst them.

If Texas decides to succeed, they will de facto have that right if they are successful, and given the size, population, industrial base, percentage of armed citizens, and number of military bases in Texas...... well, you figure it out.

The news paper articles which now comprise the Federalist Papers was what they used to sell the Constitution to the states... and yes progressives (Statists) have not been satisfied with the enumerated powers since before ratification, but do you REALLY think it would have been ratified if they knew what Hamilton had in mind... simply put HELL NO!

    3. if this pushback results in the Supreme Court discovering an amendment between #9 and #11; the consequences could be very far reaching indeed.
You sure know a lot about Texas for a guy from NC. Perhaps you lived here before? Maybe even before we were up to our necks in red ink.

Perry is going to chest beat until he (possibly) wins the governor election.

Remember recently when he was going to have us secede before accepting any of the bailout money? There was a big article in Monday's Dallas Morning News about how all of these departments were trying to figure out how they are going to spend the funds they just received from the FED.

Why would the insurance stance be any different?

    You go TEXAS!
Put down your pitchfork Bill. We're going to have national HC just like all the rest of the states. In fact, all the FED has to do is refuse to give us highway funds. That's how we got:

    1 Seatbelt law
    2 Mandatory auto insurance
    3 .08 BAC
    4 open container law

2 years w/o highway funds and we'll need mules to get around.
