Congress has bestowed the highest civilian honor, the Congressional Gold Medal, to female World War Two pilots known as WASPs for their heroic service during the war. In 1942 and 1943, more than 1,000 women answered the call of duty. (March. 10)

I didn't know they had stewardesses on WWII bombers. :lamo j/k, good show!

Does this mean that everyother pilot that served during WW2 is going to get a fancy medal?

Women being fighters is nothing new nor special.

Russia's [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Witches"]Night Witches[/ame].

How does one earn a congressional medal for a military position without even fighting the enemy?

Just wondering. Cheers to their service.

Or maybe they played a key logistics role in a serious global conflict at great personal risk?

Planes in those days had this irritating tendency to fall out of the sky, especially on those long intercontinental trips.

I knew we'd see some partisan nonsense in even this thread.

These women spent their own money to learn to flay then preformed a valuable service freeing up men to do the fighting.

These women along with all the countless Rosie The Riveters and even the women who kept the home fires burning did a great service to their country.

I had the privilege of working with a Rosie The Riveter in aircraft manufacturing for a short time. She was a small woman who worked rings around some guys.

I think this recognition is long over do for these wonderful Americans.
